Trivia
- Eelektrik and its evolutionary relatives are the only Pokémon, aside from Ghost/Dark types, to have no weaknesses. However, this is due to their ability, Levitate, which eliminates their sole weakness to the Ground type, and not because of type matchups.
- They are also the only single-type Pokémon with no weaknesses.
- However, they cannot be made invincible if given Wonder Guard, as it replaces Levitate, thus making them weak to Template:Type2 attacks.
- Also, they are the only weakness-free Pokémon that have evolutionary relatives.
- Despite being based on marine animals, and living in the ocean, Eelektrik and its evolutionary relatives are not Water-type, cannot learn any Water-type moves other than Rain Dance, and are not found near water in the wild.
- Eelektrik is the only member of its evolution line that learns moves by leveling up. It is the only Pokémon in the second stage of a three-stage evolutionary line to have this distinction.
- Eelektrik is the only Pokémon that evolves when exposed to a Thunderstone that was not introduced in Generation I.
Origin
Eelektrik and its evolutionary relatives may be based on electric eels, lampreys, jawless fish and possibly leeches. The fact that it is Electric-type may be an allusion to bioelectrogenesis.
Name origin
Its name is a combination of eel and a corrupted spelling of electric. Its Japanese name is likely a combination of 痺れ shibire means numbness or "shibireunagi" means electric eel, ビリビリ biribiri, onomatopoeic word for an electric shock sound and イール īru, eel.
