Evolution
Many trainers want Dragonite in their respective parties. However, Dragonite are very rarely if ever found in the wild, and as such to be acquired one must evolve them all the way from Dratini. Dratini and Dragonair are, despite thier abilities, weak next to Dragonite, who gain an immense amount of power (comparatively speaking) after evolution. Because of these factors, Dragonite are sought by many trainers, but the road to acquire one is very difficult and often abandoned.
Trivia
Origin
Appearance-wise, it is similar to European dragons. In regards to its friendly nature and high intelligence, it is closer to a lóng, a traditional Chinese dragon who brings good luck.
Name origin
Dragonite's name appears to be a combination of dragon and knight or night. It could also refer to draconite, a mythical stone of dragons. Its Japanese name is a combination of 海 kai, ocean, 竜 ryū, dragon.
