Registeel (Japanese: レジスチル Registeel) is a Steel-type legendary Pokémon.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
It is, along with Regirock and Regice, one of the three legendary golems of Hoenn.
Biology
Physiology
The top-half of Registeel's body is spherical and gray with a black stripe running down where its "face" is. Its face consists of seven dots in a hexagon formation. It has black arms with three fingers each and cylindrical legs. While Registeel has been classified as a Steel-type Pokémon, its body is actually made of a material that is harder than any known metal on this planet. Registeel's body has also shown some flexibility as well.
Gender differences
Registeel is a genderless species.
Special abilities
The metal that Registeel's body is made of is so incredibly sturdy that nothing can even scratch it. Even though the metal appears incredibly durable and stiff, it is surprisingly flexible. Apparently, Registeel's body is hollow.
Behavior
Its metal body has been tempered over thousands of years.
Habitat
Registeel resides in the Ancient Tomb. In ancient times it was imprisoned by people.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
Nobody knows what Registeel eats, or if it even eats anything at all. It has no visible mouth with which to eat, however.
In the anime
Major appearances
Ash battled against Brandon's Registeel in Overjoyed! It also appeared again in Pace - The Final Frontier! along with Regirock where they blasted off Team Rocket.
Brandon used Registeel again in his battle with Paul. It battled with Paul's Magmar and easily took out his Nidoking.
Registeel appeared again in Pillars of Friendship! Regigigas used Confuse Ray on Regirock, Regice and Registeel and all four Pokémon went on a rampage. When J attempted to capture Regigigas using her laser cannon, Regirock, Regice, Registeel and then Brandon himself all jumped in the way and were frozen instead. After J was defeated, Regigigas eventually brought them back to life with Hidden Power.
Registeel made an appearance with Regice and Regirock in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. The legendary golems were guardians of the Tree of Beginning. Registeel first attacked Team Rocket, but when they tried to flee, it attacked Ash and his friends too. After everyone was saved by Mew, it, together with Regice and Regirock, turned away.
Minor appearances
Registeel first appeared in a brief cameo during the introduction of Destiny Deoxys.
Registeel made a brief cameo along with the other members of its trio in the beginning of The Rise of Darkrai.

In the manga
In the Pokémon Adventures manga
Registeel debuted near the end of the Ruby & Sapphire arc, when Drake attempted to open the Ancient Tomb. Together, Steven and Sapphire created a team of four Beldum and Sapphire's Relicanth and Wailord, thus opening up the chamber containing Registeel, as well as the other two golems. Registeel used Superpower to stop Groudon and Kyogre from spreading destruction. After the battle, it and the other two Regis, left weak and powerless, traveled to the mountains, where they were later caught by Brandon shortly before the opening ceremony of the Battle Frontier.
Brandon used Registeel first in his battle with Emerald, where it squared off against the Hitmonchan the boy borrowed from Crystal. Though Registeel took considerable damage from the accumulation of many Fire Punches and was eventually beaten by a strong Sky Uppercut attack, it managed to cause its opponent to faint as well with a clever Toxic maneuver. It hasn't been seen since.
In the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! manga
Registeel, along with the other two legendary golems, are seen under the possession of Candice. She uses them against Hareta to test his worthiness to challenge Regigigas.

Trivia
- In the non-English European versions of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Registeel's sprite was edited because of its arm. The arm's original position is reminiscent of the Nazi salute. In Pokémon Platinum, the sprite was changed for all regions to the continental European variation (this change was retained in HeartGold and SoulSilver).
- Including Registeel, Mareep, Natu, Xatu, Forretress, and Ursaring had their color palettes changed.
- In Pokémon Ranger, Registeel is the only one of the three Regis that has a Field Move. The other two have a Poké Assist instead.
- Regirock, Regice, and Registeel are the only Pokémon with Explosion as a starting move.
- In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, there is an unobtainable Registeel Doll programmed into the game. It may have been intended to be obtained with the e-Reader.
- Registeel and Probopass both have the highest base Special Defense of all Steel-type Pokémon.
- Registeel is the only legendary golem without a stat higher than the other members of the trio. Regirock has the highest Attack and Defense, while Regice has the highest Special Attack and Special Defense. In this way, Registeel is the balanced member of the trio, as all three have equal HP and Speed.
- Registeel is the only legendary golem that learns both Iron Defense and Amnesia at level 41.
- It learns more moves by level up than the other members of its trio, with 15.
- Despite this, it is the only legendary golem that cannot have a full moveset consisting of only STAB moves.
Origin
Registeel is based on the golems of Hebrew legend. The legends cast them as servants of higher powers and are said to have writing on their heads. When the writing is removed, the creature would be weakened.
The legendary golems' typing could have been a reference to the three major ages in history, with Registeel being Iron Age.
Name origin
Registeel is the combination of the words regis (Latin for royal) and steel.
