Rock Blast (Japanese: ロックブラスト Rock Blast) is a damage-dealing Rock-type multi-strike move introduced in Generation III.
Effect
Generation III
Rock Blast inflicts damage, hitting the target 2-5 times per use. There is a 37.5% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 37.5% chance that it will hit 3 times, a 12.5% chance that it will hit 4 times, and a 12.5% chance that it will hit 5 times. This gives the attack an average power of 75, ignoring the possibility of missing. Each hit made has an equal chance to be a critical hit.
Rock Blast will end immediately if it breaks a Substitute (except in Pokémon XD). Bide and Counter will only acknowledge the last hit of this move.
Generation IV
The effects are the same as the previous generation, except it will continue attacking after a Substitute is broken.
Due to the introduction of the Ability Skill Link, a Pokémon with said Ability will always hit five times when using Rock Blast, if it does not miss.
Generation V
Accuracy increased from 80 to 90. Unlike previous generations, if Focus Sash, Focus Band, or Sturdy activate before the last hit is dealt, the following hit will cause the defending Pokémon to faint; however, Focus Band can still activate repeatedly to prevent fainting, but each chance is independent of the previous one. Each hit will cause Weak Armor to activate.
