Locations on Melemele Island
Anime-exclusive locations
In the anime
Melemele Island serves as the main setting for the Sun & Moon series, due to it being the location of the Pokémon School. It is first introduced in Alola to New Adventure!, where Ash and his mother Delia arrive to deliver a Pokémon Egg to Samson Oak. While there, Ash finds out about the Pokémon School, and decides to stay behind and attend it, while learning that the island's guardian deity, Tapu Koko, has taken a special interest in him.
Origin
Melemele Island's real-life counterpart is the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Golden yellow is the island's official color[1] and the ʻIlima is its official flower[2].
Name origin
Melemele is Hawaiian for yellow.
