With the start of every TCG Series, promotional merchandise for the Pokémon Trading Card Game is released. Beginning in November 2019, the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield, the start of Generation VIII, and the start of the Sword & Shield TCG Series allowed for a large number of promotional material and items to be made available to fans to purchase, collect, earn, and trade. The following is a chronological list of all TCG related merchandise made available during this Series of the card game.
Galar Collection
The first products of the Sword & Shield TCG Series were a trio of Galar Collection boxes, released on November 15, 2019 in conjunction with the worldwide launch of the Pokémon Sword and Shield video games. The three collections featured the Galar region's starter Pokémon—Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble—and included Line Holofoil prints of all three. The focal Pokémon of each box was included as a SWSH Black Star Promotional card, while the other two starters were sourced from the then upcoming Sword & Shield expansion. Each collection also included an oversized card featuring either Zacian or Zamazenta as a teaser for the Pokémon V mechanic and their appearance as the game mascots for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, respectively. These cards lacked the Pokémon's type, Weakness, Resistance, Retreat Cost, Ability, Energy cost, and Evolution Stage. In addition to the showcased cards, each box contained four booster packs (typically two Cosmic Eclipse, one Unbroken Bonds, and one Evolutions), a code card for the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online, and a pin of the focal starter.
