Blurb
Alec returns to the Hisui region to visit his father. There, he recalls events from his childhood when he encountered a wild Pokémon in a snow-covered forest...
Description
Across the Hisui region, many grow up believing people and Pokémon cannot live together. But when Alec meets a Hisuian Zorua, he may need to rethink how he views Pokémon!
Plot
From either side of a shadowy glade at night, a group of people and Pokémon look over a motionless Zorua. Standing over it, a Zoroark wails and glows with malicious energy.
On a sailing boat headed for the Hisui region, a young man named Alec looks at Mount Coronet on the horizon as an older man nearby complains of feeling seasick. Alec explains that he is visiting his father in Jubilife Village, to which the man offers his apologies, having heard that a violent Pokémon has appeared in the nearby Alabaster Forest. Alec looks on, deep in thought.
Several years earlier, in the Alabaster Forest, Alec's father shows a wood-carved box to a Ginkgo Guild merchant, who praises it, and Alec's father explains that he is starting to teach the craft to his son. On cue, a young Alec surprises both of them with a Hisuian Zoroark mask and after apologising, the father and son leave.
Together, they trek a very long way into the deepest snow-covered woods of Hisui, leaving Alec in awe of the sight as the sun begins to set. However, his attention turns to a mysterious blue glow in the distance and he turns to investigate, but his father stops him in his tracks, explaining that an angry Zoroark lives there. He met it once before and narrowly escaped its attacks after humans had previously mistreated it. When Alec asks how people could do something like that, Alec's father simply walks on, saying that humans and Pokémon should never coexist.
Later, as Alec's father starts chopping down a tree, Alec asks permission to explore nearby. Following a river path towards the blue glow, he ignores his father's advice not to travel too deep into the woods and stumbles upon the light's source: a Shiny Hisuian Zorua practising casting illusions. Putting his Zoroark mask on, Alec slowly approaches but shocks Zorua once it realizes he is a human. Discovering that Zorua is just as frightened as he is, Alec approaches more confidently, finding Zorua's distressing illusions hilarious. This causes Zorua to attack, sending both of them rolling down the snowy hill, through the trees, and off a cliff. Although the two find the sunset-soaked view incredible, they quickly realize the situation they are in as they hurtle towards the ground.
