Jessie's Yanmega (Japanese: ムサシのメガヤンマ Musashi's Megayanma) is the only Pokémon caught by Jessie of Team Rocket during her travels through Sinnoh, and her seventh overall.
History
Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl
Jessie caught Yanmega as a Yanma in The Thief That Keeps On Thieving! after Tyler battled and weakened her. After she captured her, Yanma was sent to Giovanni as their second successful theft. However, he immediately returned her after analyzing her and realizing she wasn't good enough, along with the fact that they already had plenty. Jessie then decided to train Yanma herself—unbeknown to the fact that Yanma already knew Ancient Power, Jessie sent her into battle, who ended up quickly evolving into Yanmega.
She was used often by Jessie, sometimes replacing Seviper as her main fighter and one of her most frequent picks for Contests.
In Playing The Leveling Field, Jessie began special training with Yanmega to teach her how to mimic Fantina's Drifblim for her upcoming Contest. Although Yanmega expressed it wouldn't be possible, Jessie persisted with the training. In Battling the Generation Gap! she made her Contest debut, where she was used in the Performance Stage of the Celestic Contest. Despite the training, her use of Silver Wind wasn't enough to imitate the Blimp Pokémon. As a result of the failed showcase, the two were eliminated.
In A Shield with a Twist, Jessilina entered Yanmega in the Majolica Town Pokémon Contest and won her second Ribbon. She was also used in the Chocovine Contest during Another One Gabites the Dust! where she passed the first round with a dazzling performance thanks to her use of Speed Boost and fast attacks.
In Steeling Peace of Mind!, Yanmega was sent out alongside Team Rocket and Barry's Pokémon to confront Team Galactic, only for her to get hit by Golbat's Sludge Bomb.
In Pursuing a Lofty Goal!, James borrowed Yanmega in order to enter the PokéRinger competition which was being held in Squallville. Jessie was reluctant as James failed to win the competition with her Dustox before. Like before, James failed to win with Yanmega, as he was unable to predict how the Sinnoh winds behaved.
In Playing the Performance Encore, Jessie used Yanmega for the Daybreak Town Contest. It battled alongside Seviper against Ursula and her Plusle and Minun. Seviper and Yanmega were able to combine their attacks well, creating a Haze-Sonic Boom and Poison-Silver Wind. However, Plusle and Minun were able to defeat them using their Spark and Helping Hand attacks, knocking Jessie out of the competition.
In Dawn of a Royal Day! she was used in the Performance Stage of the Arrowroot Contest where she created an amazing performance with her Ancient Power, placing Jessie among the Coordinators advancing to the Contest Battles. Jessie ended up losing to Salvia's Togekiss in the finals, who impressed Jessie to the point she wanted to steal the Jubilee Pokémon for herself. Yanmega battled Togekiss in the next episode. She initially held the advantage with her fast flying and strong attacks, but ended up getting overwhelmed by Togekiss's unorthodox and elegant style of battling.
Jessie used Yanmega multiple times during her campaign to become a Top Coordinator at the Sinnoh Grand Festival, including the Performance Stage, in which Yanmega performed alongside Seviper and impressed special guest judge Fantina. Yanmega was also used in the Battle Stage, battling alongside Seviper twice to advance Jessie to the semifinals. However, Jessie lost her semifinal battle to Dawn.
Yanmega appeared in Memories are Made of Bliss!, where she battled Ash and his friends for the final time in Sinnoh, but got knocked back by Staraptor's Aerial Ace before getting blasted off with the rest of the team.
Following the Team Rocket trio's journey in Sinnoh, Jessie was forced to leave Yanmega at Team Rocket's headquarters as she is not a Pokémon native in the Unova region and would seem suspicious.
Pokémon Journeys: The Series
In Rocket Revengers!, Yanmega, alongside the rest of Team Rocket's Pokémon at Team Rocket HQ, were sent to Jessie and James so they could be added back to their team. Realizing the potential of such a large group, the team hatched a scheme to isolate Ash's Pikachu and capture him. Yanmega and Amoonguss were the first to do so, distracting Brock and his Pokémon while the rest ran ahead. Upon getting a distress signal from Gourgeist, the two returned to their Trainers to take on Pikachu as a group. She joined all of Team Rocket to launch a combined attack at the Mouse Pokémon. However, it was dodged, and Wobbuffet ended up sending it back with Mirror Coat. A wild Latias that had been following Ash then intervened and sent the evil group blasting off.
Personality and characteristics
Though not much is known about Yanmega's personality to distinguish her from others of her species, she is shown to have a habit of landing on the heads of people and other Pokémon. She has been shown to land on Jessie, James, and Seviper's heads, and even Ash, Dawn, and Brock's as a Yanma before she was caught by Jessie. Yanmega is shown to be exceptionally powerful compared to the rest of Team Rocket's Pokémon, being the closest of any of them to send Ash and his friends blasting off. In Playing The Leveling Field!, Yanmega is shown to care about Jessie's approval, crying when she couldn't imitate Fantina's Drifblim for her Trainer. She is very loyal to her Trainer. While initially inexperienced in Pokémon Contests, Yanmega gradually learned how to perform better and succeed.
