Major appearances

Many Joltik appeared in BW062. They and Galvantula stole electricity from Pokémon and objects to feed on because the rocks in the Chargestone Cave that they normally fed on were being stolen by Team Rocket.

Minor appearances

Joltik first appeared in Oshawott's Lost Scalchop!, where a wild Joltik was accidentally mistaken as Ash's Oshawott's missing scalchop when he put it on his stomach. The angry Joltik then shocks Oshawott until it was knocked off.

Sylvester owns a Joltik that he used to battle Georgia in Reunion Battles In Nimbasa! during the Club Battle, but they lost.

Trivia

  • Joltik is the smallest Pokémon.
  • Joltik is the lightest Bug-type Pokémon and the lightest Pokémon introduced in Generation V.
  • No other Pokémon has the same type-combination as Joltik and its evolution.
  • Joltik and Galvantula are the only Pokémon capable of having the Unnerve Ability that do not have it as their Hidden Ability.
  • Joltik is the only Pokémon that has a base stat total of 319.

Origin

Its Pokédex entry states that it latches onto to larger Pokémon to drain the static electricity off them, so it may be based on a tick, though its size seems to imply it is based on a mite. Like its evolution, it is also based on a tarantula, or a jumping spider.

Name origin

Joltik may be a combination of jolt and tick. Bachuru appears to be a combination of バチバチ bachibachi, an onomatopoeia for electric crackling, and タランチュラ taranchura, tarantula. It may also be a combination of バグ bagu, bug, and チュウ chū, an alternate reading of 虫 mushi, meaning bug.
