Trivia

  • Hoiiga shares many similarities with Kakuna. Both are Bug/Poison type, both are based off cocoons and both belong to a three-stage family of Bug/Poison Pokémon.
    • However Hoiiga has a diverse moveset, while Kakuna has a very limited one.
  • Hoiiga is physically very similar to Donphan, both are based on tires, both are gray coloured and both learn moves involving rolling.

Origin

Hoiiga, like its species states, is based on a centipede. However, its rolled up appearance and color scheme is more similar to that of an Oniscidea or Oniscomorpha. When in danger, these arthropods in these two orders will curl up into a ball. It may also be based on a car tire.

Name origin

Its name derives from ホイール hoīru, wheel.
