Origin

Galvantula is based on a tarantula, or a jumping spider.

Name origin

Galvantula is a portmanteau of the words galvanism and tarantula. Dentula is likely a combination of 電気 denki, electricity, or 電柱 denchū, lightpole, and タランチュラ taranchura, tarantula. May also tie in with chū, an alternate reading of 虫 mushi, meaning bug.

In other languages

German Voltula From Volt and tarantula.
French Mygavolt From Mygale and mégavolt.
Korean 전툴라 Jeontulla
