Sleep Powder (Japanese: ねむりごな Sleep Powder) is a non-damaging Grass-type move introduced in Generation I.

It appears to be a sleep counterpart to Poison Powder and Stun Spore, as the accuracy, Contest group, appeal, effects, Japanese names and animation are the same or very similar. They are also usually learned at the same level or in a similar pattern.

Effect

Generation I-II

Sleep Powder puts the target to sleep.

Generation III-VI

Sleep Powder's effects remain the same, except that now it can't affect targets with Insomnia or Vital Spirit as their Ability.

Generation V

Sleep Powder is now also ineffective if used on a Pokémon with Sap Sipper as their Ability.

Generation VI

Grass-type Pokémon, Pokémon with Overcoat, and Pokémon holding the Safety Goggles are now immune to Sleep Powder.

Description

Games Description Induces sleep. A Pokémon will stay asleep for several turns if an item isn't used to wake it. May cause the foe to fall asleep. RSE Scatters a powder that may cause the foe to sleep. FRLG A sleep-inducing dust is scattered in high volume around a foe. Scatters a powder that may cause the target to sleep. PMDRB Makes all foes around the user go to sleep, making them incapable of action. The user scatters a big cloud of sleep-inducing dust around the foe. The user scatters a big cloud of sleep-inducing dust around the target.
