Rayquaza (Japanese: レックウザ Rayquaza) is a Dragon/Flying-type Pokémon. In Pokémon Emerald, it served to end the conflict between Groudon and Kyogre when Team Magma's leader Maxie and Team Aqua's leader Archie awakened them.
Rayquaza has the Ability Air Lock, which blocks all effects of weather conditions on the field when it is in battle.
Rayquaza is the version mascot of Pokémon Emerald, appearing on the boxart.
Biology
Physiology
Rayquaza a is large, green serpentine creature with rudder-like wings. Yellow rings run across the length of Rayquaza's body and has an additional yellow ring on top of its head. Rayquaza has arms with three-fingered hands. Rayquaza has long, flat "horns" on its head and two smaller horns below them. Its eyes and markings resemble those of both Groudon and Kyogre.
Gender differences
Rayquaza is genderless.
Special abilities
Rayquaza is capable of using various elemental attacks. It is also unable to be affected by weather conditions. Since Rayquaza is a "true" Dragon-type Pokémon, it can know Draco Meteor.

NPC appearances
- Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire: Rayquaza is the focus of the third and final Bonus Field. It can only be challenged after capturing Groudon or Kyogre and will then join the circuit of bonus fields. Rayquaza will bounce along from left to right, allowing the ball to roll under it if it is up. It will sometimes use Thunder to paralyze the ball if it is not moving fast enough, though it does stay still while it is unleashing the attack. Rayquaza will also sometimes use Extremespeed to create two tornados that cause the ball to fly up into the air for several seconds if contact is made. Rayquaza must be hit 15 times in three minutes to win. After beating the round twice, Rayquaza will be captured.
- Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rayquaza acts as final boss, living on the Sky Tower. After the credits roll the player can re-battle Rayquaza to recruit it.
- Pokémon Ranger: Rayquaza can be caught in a bonus mission after the credits.

Rayquaza is shown to be in the Subspace Emissiary mode of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, due to a video that was released on the official site. In the video, it emerges from a lake, destroys Fox Mc. Cloud's Arwing with what appears to be a Dragon Pulse, then proceeds to grab Diddy Kong. However, it is defeated when Fox uses his sheild to send a Dragon Pulse back at it. It has been speculated by fans that Rayquaza wil return as a boss enemy, but this has not been confirmed.

NOTE: When Rayquaza is encountered it is level 70, with the moves Outrage, Extremespeed, Fly, and Rest. The rest of the moves in the list are capable of being learned from the move relearner, which means Rayquaza would naturally learn them if trained from level 5 onward.

Trivia
- In terms of relevance to other Pokémon, Rayquaza has similarities to Ziz, the Hebrew lord of the sky, when compared to Groudon's behemoth origins and Kyogre's leviathan origins.
- Rayquaza is, as of Generation IV, the tallest legendary Pokémon.
- Rayquaza is one of the very few Pokémon to learn an HM move by level up, and the only legendary Pokémon to do so.
- Rayquaza is the only legendary Pokémon that can be captured at a higher level than the Elite Four before becoming the champion.
Origin
It is based on Chinese dragons, or lóng.
Name origin
Rayquaza's name is likely a combination of ray and quasar. Although not present in the Romanization, the katakana for "Rayquaza" contain kū, which can mean sky (空; this kanji is normally read sora when not conjugated).
