From Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia.
Route 39 is a short route that runs between Olivine City to the south and Route 38 to the northeast in west Johto. Route 39 becomes Route 38 just east of MooMoo Farm. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, this is where players will first meet Baoba and exchange phone numbers with him.
Route description
Route 39 is almost perfectly straight and has no major obstacles. There is only one patch of grass that contains wild Pokémon, and this area is located off the beaten path.
Along Route 39, there are four trainers: one near the entrance to MooMoo Farm and three near the southern end of the route. In Pokémon Gold and Silver, the player can register the phone number of one of these three trainers, PokéFan Derek, into the Pokégear for subsequent battles, as well as the occasional Nugget if he or she has a Pikachu in the party when battling him.
All of the items on Route 39 are concentrated near MooMoo Farm. Outside of the farm, a Berry tree contains a Mint Berry. Inside of the farm, the player can purchase MooMoo Milk and obtain TM13 (Snore) upon restoring the farm's Miltank to full health by feeding it a large number of Berries.
