Probopass (Japanese: ダイノーズ Dainose) is a dual-type Rock/Steel Pokémon.

It evolves from Nosepass via level-up while in Mt. Coronet or Electric Rock Cave.

Biology

Physiology

Probopass has small round eyes, contrasting Nosepass's perpetually closed ones. Its nose is much bigger in proportion to its body, and it has a bushy mustache that appears to consist of iron filings caught by its magnetic nose. It has three small objects on its sides and back that look like Nosepass; they are called "Mini-Noses" by the Pokédex. These "Mini-Noses" can detach to form new Nosepass. It also has a big hat-like magnet on top of its head.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

It has fairly strong magnetic abilities, especially around its large nose. It also possesses the ability to control smaller units called "Mini-Noses".

Behavior

Probopass tend to sit still on rocky islands for long periods of time. They are not aggressive and are content to relax.

Habitat

Probopass live inside Mt. Coronet and on rocky islands, but rarely appear.

In the anime

Probopass appeared in Nosing 'Round The Mountain!, under Alan's ownership. It reappeared in a flashback in Playing The Leveling Field! where it was shown to have defeated Fantina's Gengar.

Several Probopass appeared in Cheers on Castaways Isle! together with its pre-evolution, Nosepass.

Another Probopass appeared in Dawn of a Royal Day!.

In the manga

In Pokémon Adventures, Diamond was separated from Pearl and Platinum in Mt. Coronet because Cyrus deemed their presence as a nuisance and attempted to bury them alive in a rockslide with his Probopass and Magnezone.

The same Diamond and Pearl would later fight to keep the criminal mastermind from taking his camera back to his headquarters, during which Cyrus used his Probopass' Magnet Bomb to injure the former.

Trivia

Origin

Bulbanews
Bulbanews has an article related to this subject:

Probopass is based on the pukau-wearing moai statues of Easter Island and a compass magnet with iron filings attached to it.

Name origin

Probopass is a combination of proboscis and compass. Dainose's name is a combination of 大 dai, big, and nose – thus literally meaning "big nose."

In other languages

  • German: Voluminas - From voluminös (voluminous) and Nase (nose).
  • French: Tarinorme - From tarin (nose) and énorme (huge).
  • Korean: 대코파스 Daekopass
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 大朝北鼻 Dà Cháo Běi Bí - Literally "Big north-facing nose". Contains 朝北鼻, the Chinese name for Nosepass.
