Gible (Japanese: フカマル Fukamaru) is a dual-type Dragon/Ground Pokémon.

It evolves into Gabite starting at level 24, which evolves into Garchomp starting at level 48.

Biology

Physiology

Gible is a small, pudgy dragon with a big mouth filled with sharp teeth, no neck, and arms that start at the outer edges of its jaws.

It is dark blue, with a red underbelly that covers its abdomen to the bottoms of its jaws. Gible has two horns that resemble jet or plane engines, each with a light blue stripe in the middle. It has a single light blue stripe on its backs. The fin on its head is strong enough to carry a person.

Gender differences

A male has a cut on his dorsal fin, while the female does not. This may signify that male Gible fight more, leaving scars.

Special abilities

Gible appear to be good diggers, making deep holes for homes in caverns. They seem to be playful and enjoy play-fighting with other members of their species. The have tremendously strong jaws that they use to bite enemies. However, when biting, they hurt themselves.

Behavior

Gible hide in their holes and wait for prey to pass by. They occasionally hold dare competitions with each other which can put them in danger. When they bite, they hurt themselves out of clumsiness. It has been depicted in the anime that Gible licks people it is fond of, like a dog.

Habitat

Gible lives in tunnels it constructs inside warm caves. Some also prefer to live in forests. It prefers heat similar to that of a tropical climate.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

They are most likely carnivores. However, they are sometimes found with the Haban Berry. A specific Gible owned by Ash has been seen eating metal, rocks, wood, and even a Poké Ball, though it's unknown if it's just that specific Gible or a diet for the species as a whole.

In the anime

Major appearances

Gible made its debut anime appearance in A Rivalry to Gible On!, where one was caught by Khoury.

Another Gible also appeared in A Meteoric Rise to Excellence!. It tried to learn Draco Meteor with the help of Ash and friends, but kept failing to use it, succeeding only once. It began to follow the group at the end of the episode. It appeared again in Gotta Get a Gible!, where Ash captured it.

Minor appearances

Gible made a cameo in the movie The Rise of Darkrai where it was battling a Bronzor, and again as one of the victims to Darkrai's Dark Void. A balloon shaped like a Gible also appeared in the movie.

Trivia

Origin

Appearance-wise, Gible seems like a cross between a European dragon and a shark. Gible and its evolved forms may also be a reference to the book series "Dougal Dixon's After Man". One species mentioned is a type of land shark that lives in desert regions.

Name origin

Gible may be a combination of ground and nibble. It may also come from the word gobble. Fukamaru may be a combination of 鱶 fuka, shark, and 丸 maru, round.

In other languages

  • German: Kaumalat - From kauen (chew).
  • French: Griknot - From grignoter (chew) and quenotte (milk tooth).
  • Korean: 딥상어동 Dipsang-eodong
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 圓陸鯊 Yuán Lù Shā - Literally "Round land shark".
