Murkrow (Japanese: ヤミカラス Yamikarasu) is a dual-type Dark/Flying Pokémon.
It evolves into Honchkrow when exposed to a Dusk Stone.
Biology
Murkrow is a small bird Pokémon with black feathers. Its shaggy, feathery tail resembles the end of a broom, and has a small, short, red rod-like beginning segment. It has a crooked, yellow beak resembling a witch's nose, a feather-crest resembling a witch's hat and semi-circular eyes with red pupils. Murkrow's neck seems thin in comparison to the size of the head it supports, with an extension of feathers on its neck like a collar. Murkrow has four toes on its yellow feet, three forward and one backward. A female has a smaller feather crest than a male.
Murkrow usually live in forests or swamps, but some have been known to move into cities. Murkrow is a scavenger and will eat almost anything.
Murkrow has a fondness for anything sparkly and has been known to steal things such as jewelry from people and hide them. Whenever a Murkrow is chased, it will lead the attacker to a dark mountain trail where the foe is bound to get lost.
Murkrow is feared and loathed by some, as it is believed to bring misfortune to anyone who sees it at night. In the anime, it is said something bad will happen if a Murkrow flies over someone's head late at night.
It is possible to train a Murkrow to repeat words like a real world parrot (as seen under Team Rocket's ownership).
Murkrow and its evolution are the only Pokémon that learn Quash by leveling up.

Gold, Silver, and Crystal all have Murkrow. However, Silver is the only one who actually has it on his team, which has since evolved into a Honchkrow at the start of the HeartGold & SoulSilver arc. Gold caught one in Murkrow Row while Crystal caught hers as one of the many Pokémon she captured for Professor Oak's research.
Karen is later seen with two Murkrow. Like Silver, she uses them for flight transport. Ariana of the newest Team Rocket incarnation also has a Murkrow.

Trivia
Origin
Murkrow is based on a crow, more specifically the carrion crow. Its crest resembles that of the black hawk-eagle. Its crest can also be taken to resemble a pointed hat, and its tail the bristles of a broom, giving it a resemblance to a witch in flight. In regards to its Generation IV evolution, it can also be taken to resemble a gang member under a head Honchkrow. Its ability to mimic voices is referencing crows' and ravens' ability to imitate other sounds.
Name origin
Murkrow is a combination of murky and crow. It may also be a combination of murder (a group of crows) and crow.
Yamikarasu is a combination of 闇 yami (dark) and 烏 karasu (crow).
