Template talk:Ash's Pokémon
Ash's Primeape
I don't think that it is appropriate to consider him "in training" because Ash's page says he is released, because he cannot be called upon at any time like Charizard and Squirtle can. So, I am going to revert to the version by Pie. I know that in Spurt he appears with Ash's Oaked Pokemon, but he does not fit the definition of in training. Briememory 20:53, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Just because Ash never has called on Primeape doesn’t mean he can’t. In the dub, he leaves it to be trained into a P1 champion. Unless he specifically gives it away in the Japanese version, it is technically his Pokémon just as much as the other two. --WikidSmaht 22:01, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Aipom
Since we're pretty sure it evolves soon... what does everyone think of on Ash's template? He traded it as an Aipom, not Ambipom, so I think it should stay as "Aipom" on this template, but link to Dawn's Ambipom. Of course, this shall be WHEN the evolution happens. Lara Laramie's Rapidash
Since Ash used Lara's Rapidash for a race, should Rapidash go under Temporary with Seaking? - unsigned comment from Chosen (talk • contribs)
- That was borrowed for a competition. Ash never caught it or used it in battle. He just sat on it. I say it doesn't count TheAlmightyChris 20:34, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Templates?
Wouldn't it be better to use Template:AP than Template:TP? I'm putting this on the talk page since I'm not sure if there was a specific reason for using this template and not the other... - spontaneousCombusken 04:26, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- It should be AP. The reason it was done with TP is because the AP template didn't exist at the time (I know, cause I'm the one who did it...) Anyway, I'll change it now. --ElectAbuzzzz 12:17, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Maybe this should get locked. You know, the whole Chimmy thing.
I'd do it myself, but I was stripped of the ability to do so. :\ ~Toastypk - Loom. 16:41, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Revamp
First time I saw it I really hated it, but it's kinda growing on me... Are we gonna use the Ash (electric) theme on all pages, or the Pokémon types? (as in, on Monferno's page for example, a fire background with light fighting title?) --electAbuzzzz 14:09, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hmmm... actually, we should see about that. It's a good idea. Wait for me to progrum up the rest of the template (I'll do it in about 12 hours, actually) but... yeah. TTEchidna 15:20, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- The new character infobox and the VA tables give each character its own theme color. We should use that color on the trainer's page, and the Pokémon's types on the Pokémon pages. --electAbuzzzz 23:29, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- This is getting too confusing already and it's not even finished yet. How about we turn the anisprites into regular sprites for the nonactive team members? And the "At Oak's" thing should be higher up, not at the middle row. --electAbuzzzz 09:46, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe if I put some sort of border around each level? And I'm keeping it with the ani overworlds until I get them all done, then I'll go with the MSes. TTEchidna 18:53, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, a border or line might work. --electAbuzzzz 19:00, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Edit request
Can someone make the overworld sprite of Noctowl shiny. --SnorlaxMonster 09:42, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- It's not using the overworld sprite, and there are no shiny menu sprites. - Kogoro | Talk to me - 09:49, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

- Aah, I didn't notice those weren't overworld. I thought they just weren't animated. Are we updating the rest of the pages, or waiting until we have the images to match before we update. I was attempting to update Paul and noticed 3 overworld images were missing. --SnorlaxMonster 10:07, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Information conflict
I don't have access to the anime anymore, so I don't know which is true, but Ash's Pokémon's pages state differently to this template. Infernape, Torterra and Buizel all contradict this template. Which is right? Thanks, Samjohn95 15:49, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- Resolved. —darklordtrom 09:54, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Once again!
OK, so Ash's Buizel's page doesn't match this template, and neither does Ash's Infernape's. As last time, I don't know which is which, so can someone edit this please? Thank you, Samjohn95 17:02, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
- If you click on "show" you will see that both Ash's Infernape and Buizel are in Oak's laboratory. Also, on Ash's Infenape's page it says that "Before the Suzuran Conference, Ash decided he would need help from his previously caught Pokémon. Due to this, Infernape, along with Ash's Sinnoh party (save for Staraptor) were all sent to Professor Oak's Laboratory. " I'm assuming this includes Buizel as well. So the template is fine as it is right now. —♥ Jello 17:24, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Why does it look weird?
Why are Pikachu and Mamepato all the way on the right? I'm not good with templates so I'm asking for some help. --ケンジのガール 06:27, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
- I wondered about that too, I checked the source code and somebody's set it to align=right. I dunno why though, I agree that it looks kind of dumb. --ZestyCactus 06:58, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
- The align=right is for the text (on hand, at Oak's, etc). The reason that Pikachu and Mamepato were on the wrong side is because there were four missing cells. All better now. —darklordtrom 07:48, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
On Sewaddle...
If Ash doesn't reveal who he swapped out for Sewaddle by the time BW019 comes around, I suggest we change "On Hand" to "Active Roster", put Pikachu on the top row by itself (to signify it's significance), and the rest on the second row.

SUPERB UPDATE: Aaand she did, as a Tranquill. Since we don't actually know if she was swapped for Sewaddle or one of the starters, I suggest bringing this topic back up. - Chosen of Mana 15:03, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oshawott was in BW031, Scraggy in BW032, Snivy and Tepig are confirmed in BW034. So, it's pretty much confirmed that it was Swadloon. ♫♪エイディニズ♪♫ 18:38, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Current Party
Shouldn't it show the current English party? Or should it have two sections for English and Japanese parties? Blake Talk·Edits 15:57, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

[[Category:Trainer's Pokémon templates|Ash]] [[de:Vorlage:Ashs Pokémon]]
- I agree. It is hard to tell what is in what category. It looks like Bulbasaur's line is "with Juniper", and Rapidash's line is "Not caught" Blake Talk·Edits 15:35, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
Pikachu?
Pikachu shouldn't be considered to be "in rotation". We all know that Pikachu will always be in Ash's party, so why not just put Pikachu in the "on hand" section, and right below it we put the rest in the "in rotation" part? :--SuperAipom7 (Questions?) 16:26, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
- He never switched Osha, Tepig or Snivy either. So, it'll just cause more and more conflict. So, Pikachu is fine there. ♫♪エイディニズ♪♫ 17:56, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Team Rocket's Meowth
Should Meowth be added to the templates of Ash, Iris and Cilan under "Travelled with"? It was a longer period of time than, say, Haunter, even if Haunter seemed like it was travelling only with Ash. - Blazios talk 13:51, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
Primeape
I think Primape should be moved from "In Training", but not to the "Released" section. Instead, it should be listed under "Temporary". It only appeared in 2 episodes, and was only in Ash's party for about 3 or 4, and its article has no mention of any appearances in opening or ending themes. Vuvuzela2010 Δ 18:36, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- I beg to disagree, Primeape did appear in Spurt. ♫♪エイディニズ♪♫ 18:58, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I've added that to Primeape's page. Vuvuzela2010 Δ 19:20, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
Unfezant
Just wondering why Unfezant is still listed in Ash's rotation despite being swapped for Charizard. Considering all of Ash's Pokemon that were 'in rotation' are with Juniper, one going back to Oak should be enough to suggest that she's out of the rotation. --Moe (talk) 05:16, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
- Who's to say Ash won't send another Pokémon to Oak and Unfezant comes back? Who's to say Charizard is staying after Episode N? It's unknown what will happen, so this is the best solution for the moment. --HoennMaster 08:02, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
Protection
This template is highly-used. Seabiscuit2020 made four consecutive edits in this template (and I don't know if it crashed the server for a few minutes). This template shouldn't be edited by regular users. --~~ThePokémonFanSince1995~~-- 05:42, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
Fanmade sprite
Why does this template use a fanmade sprite for the Rotom Pokedex? This seems extremely against our normal protocols. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 20:29, 15 June 2017 (UTC)
- Custom sprites aren't unheard of in Bulbapedia, and are always used whenever menu sprites for non-standard Pokémon are needed. It may not happen often, but it does happen and is allowed. I'm switching it back, because it's not against normal protocols. Rotom hasn't been in its normal form under the "ownership" of Ash either, but only when it was with Kukui. --Gabo 2oo (talk) 08:06, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
- I think we need staff guidance in this case. Nearly every other example in that category is from ye olden days of Bulbapedia back when we used fanart for Arceus' page because the Sugimori art hadn't been released. Many of our protocols have tightened up since then, and I think this is one of those times. I'll be requesting the staff to look at the issue. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 13:41, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
- Fair enough. If we get rid of this one though, it'd mean we shouldn't be using the other ones we have for Shiny Pokémon and such either, which will bring up more trouble than it's worth, in my opinion. --Gabo 2oo (talk) 15:23, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
- Important and notable Pokemon, such as Ash's Noctowl or the Pink Butterfree get custom sprites because of their uniqueness. The Bulbapedia specific sprites, the Golden awards specifically, are certainly things that should be kept. Though there are some sprites in that category that we definitely do not need, such as the anime group sprites.--ForceFire 11:11, 5 August 2017 (UTC)

Ride Pokémon
Why ride pokémon used by Ash don't stay in this template? Ride pokémon used by Sophocles and Kiawe stay in their templates.--Lockheedpryde (talk) 19:19, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
- I asked about this months ago and was told "it is being discussed" or something to that effect. Arceus knows what there is to disscuss, the Ride Pokem should be on Ash's template like every other pokemon on the page. Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 21:49, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
