Garchomp (Japanese: ガブリアス Gablias) is a Dragon/Ground-type Pokémon. It is also a Pseudo-legendary.

Biology

Physiology

Garchomp appears to be a blue dragon crossed with a hammerhead shark. On each limb are two spikes, their use unknown, with a red belly with one yellow triangle near its pelvis. On each of its forelegs are a single, sharp claw, with two dorsal fin-like "wings" that it flies with. On the sides of its head are two extentions from a hammerhead shark, and resemble plane turbines.

Gender differences

The female has a full dorsal fin, while the male's has a triangular cut in it, like its pre-evolutions.

Special abilities

Though Garchomp is not able to learn the move Fly, and cannot possess Levitate it can still fly at an incredible speed to catch its prey.

Trivia

  • Becasue Garchomp bears the same star symbol that Sharpedo has and has a fin like Sharpedo, it's assumed Garchomp and Sharpedo are distant cousins.
  • Garchomp has the second highest base stat average of all non-legendary Pokémon, the first being Slaking. However, it is tied with the four other powerhouse evolutions. Garchomp is also tied with many other legendaries for base stat average, including Mew, Celebi, Deoxys, Latios and Latias.
  • Though its Pokédex entries make note of its astounding flying abilities, Garchomp cannot learn Fly. Similarly, though known as the Mach Pokémon, it cannot learn Mach Punch or any other variation of Quick Attack, including Quick Attack itself, in general.

Origin

Appearance-wise, Garchomp seems like a cross between a European dragon and a hammerhead shark. Its German name, Knakrack, comes from knackig and Krach. Its French name, Carchacrok, comes from Carcharodon, scientific name of sharks, and croquant.
