English Name Origin
Meowstic likely comes from Meow and Mystic Vienna Waltz (talk) 14:10, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Japanese name
Its Japanese name may come from: Nya (ニャ),Japanese equivalent to "Meow"/the sound that a cat makes and Oni (オニ),a kind of youkai, that is a monster/spirit.The Kusu (クス)means camphor tree i guess, but i don't see how this is related. - Ishlishl (talk) 21:32, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if it's notable, but onikkusu could also possibly translate to "onyx", a stone that commonly contains bands of black and white, which is similar to their colors and some design. A little far-fetched, but... Heibai (talk) 22:27, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
- I personally think that onikkusu as "onyx" works as a viable origin as well, for the reasons that Heibai stated above. And if Wikipedia counts for anything, the introductory paragraph for the article on onyx states that "commonly, specimens of onyx contain bands of black and/or white". - unsigned comment from Fenyx4 (talk • contribs)
- It should also be noted that Japanese has an array of similar cat-sounds, similar to how english has both "mew" and "meow" as "cat noises", one of which is Nyao (ニャオ); consequently, I parse the name as nyao-nikusu, and would suggest that the latter part of that (nikusu) is from the greek night-goddess Nyx? Or perhaps a shortened form of psionics(サイオニクス)? Or, Japanese people seem to be suggesting Sphinx.Harumei (talk) 00:27, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

A bit of trivia to be added...
You can add that Meowstic is the first Pokémon to have more than five characters in its Japanese name. ~~LDEJRuff~~ 19:49, 13 September, 2013 (UTC)

English name
Meow + Mystic.
Somebody else has already said it, why hasn't this been added to the article yet? --The Truth aka Relicant 09:54, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
P.S. someone also needs to add Furfrou's Origin + English Name Origin there's been a huge discussion about it on the talk page.
Also, the Spanish and Italian names have the same origin as the English name. Meow + mystic. --The Truth aka Relicant 10:04, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
Origin
Is it possible that Meowstic could draw at least a little inspiration from "Spock" and "Vulcans" in general? "...[it] tends not to show its emotions" and, in my opinion at least, its ears (the female's ears in particular) resemble that of "Vulcan" ears in appearance (apart from the whole extend-to-reveal-a-psychic-organ thing)!--ShinyPatch (talk) 21:18, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
- There's barely a resemblance at all, and we generally avoid including copyrighted things in origin sections (Tyranitar/Godzilla notwithstanding). Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 21:43, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

- Just put them on the page under a subheading stating which it is, like has been done previously for different forms, but don't use a show/hide. We can make formatting changes later if we decide we want to. Werdnae (talk) 22:56, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
Hidden Ability
I'm not sure, but isn't this the only Pokémon with multiple Hidden Abilities? I'm also fairly sure it's the only Pokémon of which' gender decides it's Ability. Should this be noted in Trivia? --Queenwillneverdie (talk) 10:48, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
According to Veekun, Meowstic also gets Disarming Voice at Level 22
Can anyone double check this? Trainer Yusuf (talk) 11:34, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- Both male and female get it before level 25 (after Fake Out), but I cannot confirm a specific level. 22 does seem likely though, since their other levels match Espurr's. --SnorlaxMonster 12:45, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
Nyaonix
Does anyone think it is at all likely that their Japanese names comes from 'psionics'? Is it worth mentioning?
Beret?
Anyone else think female Meowstic looks like it's wearing a beret and fancy scarf? Considering Meowstic was created for a game set in a counterpart of France, and berets are, like, THE stereotypical French fashion item, I'd say there's a good argument for a connection there. And if its design IS based on accessories, I'd further venture that Meowstic having markedly different male/female formes might, in part, be a subtle reference to X&Y introducing customization of the player character (or at least, their appearances, which I've always thought looked quite chic). Images showing the ear organs?
Figured readers might like to know what the psychic ear organs look like, and demonstrative images would be nice. After looking through the Meowstic cat-egory on the Archives, I found the image of Bluto's for the male's. I was wondering if we might be able to add something to show the female's as well. Thoughts, anyone? Pichugetic (talk) 12:14, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
