Ledyba (Japanese: レディバ Ledyba) is a dual-type Bug/Flying Pokémon.

It evolves into Ledian starting at level 18.

Biology

Physiology

Ledyba is similar to a ladybug, with five black spots on its back. It also has two black antennae and hands that look like boxing gloves.

Gender differences

A female Ledyba has shorter antennae than male Ledyba.

Special abilities

It secretes fluids out of its feet and legs that tell its location and feelings.

Ledyba first appeared in Pikachu's Rescue Adventure. First Misty's Togepi saw them and curiously followed them and later on Ash's Pikachu and co were saved by the same group from falling.

Ledyba's first major appearance was The Whistle Stop. A girl named Arielle owned 6 of them, and controlled them with her whistle.

It appears to have been based on a ladybug.

Name origin

Ledyba's name appears to be a corruption and shortening of ladybird, also known as a ladybug. Its French name is a simple shortening of the ladybird as well.
