April 1, 2020 was an April Fools' Day that fell on a Wednesday. In the Pokémon fandom, some websites pulled hoaxes on gullible fans.

- Smogon shut down the social forum for the day and made the bogus announcement that Finchinator (the leader of the OU tier) would be retiring.
Pokémon GO
Pokémon Masters
- The background music for the Pokémon Center and other locations was changed to play music from Pokémon Red and Green.[1]
Aesthetic changes
- The Bulbagarden forums were changed to be lightbulb-themed.
