(Japanese: 誕生！炎の探検隊！！ Birth! Blazing Exploration Team!!) is the first chapter of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blazing Exploration Team manga.
Plot
The chapter begins with a timid Totodile trying to work up the nerve to enter the Wigglytuff's Guild so that he can become an Explorer, but a combination of his timidness and Chatot's words about the guild not accepting cowards causes him to leave. Ashamed at himself, Totodile walks down a road and, unbeknownst to him, is being watched by two figures. As he continues walking, he finds a Chimchar lying on the ground.
He tries to wake him up but to no avail, thinking that he is dead. The Chimchar suddenly wakes up from his nap. After introducing themselves, Totodile is tricked by a Koffing and Zubat who convince him to give them his prized possession, the Relic Fragment. After chasing them down, Totodile demands his Relic Fragment back, but they refuse to unless they fight them.
After a brief talk, the two enter the cave and, after escaping from a pit hole, encounter the thieves. Honō begins battling the two alone but doesn't realize that he is under the effects of Supersonic and is only attacking the cave. While Honō goes out of control, he starts to cause the cave to collapse, so the two thieves begin to attack him to stop the cave from falling in on itself. In doing so, however, they cause the cave to collapse anyway. Totodile manages to work up the courage to fight and defeats the fleeing Koffing and Zubat. After they retrieve the Relic Fragment, they are rescued by Dusknoir and Honō introduces themselves as the newest Exploration Team, The Blazing Exploration team "Team Blaze". The chapter ends with a Grovyle stealing a mysterious object.
