Debut Aeos Energy

Erbie (Japanese: エルビー Erbie) is a character who appears in Pokémon UNITE. On top of his duties as Professor Phorus's assistant, he guides the player and works at the Unite Battle Committee's shop. He and Phorus actually created Unite Battles, the premier way of enhancing the power of Aeos energy.[1][2]

In the games

Erbie is a researcher who assists Professor Phorus in researching Aeos energy as part of the Aeos Research Institute. [3] Erbie also works as part of the Unite Battle Committee, running the Committee's shop. His partner Pokémon is Elekid.

When Erbie and the player first met, it was because Professor Phorus assigned him to explain the rules of Unite Battles to the player. The player had just turned up on the island, and wanted to participate. Erbie finished Phorus's presentation of Remoat Stadium footage. Then he sent out a Pikachu from the Aeos Research Institute and lent it to the player for use in the Practice Area. There, he guides the player through Tutorial (Basics 1), a solo battle scenario, explaining the basic rules of an Unite Battle along the way.

After that, Erbie took the player to Mer Stadium for Tutorial (Basics 2), a full 5 vs 5 battle with 9 other Aeos Trainers. The player was allowed to continue using the Pikachu. Professor Phorus rejoined the group, and she and Erbie alternated providing additional details and strategic advice for Unite Battles.

Phorus left afterward, but Erbie stayed to congratulate the player and offer them their firstPre version 1.12.1.2/secondPost version 1.12.1.2 Pokémon Unite license to commemorate their first Unite Battle. He also told the player that the Practice menu is always available to repeat these prior battles, and introduced the player to their Trainer level and the gifts the Unite Battle Committee sends as one's Trainer level rises. Erbie continues to remind the player of this until they reach Trainer level 5. This is also when he announced that the player is allowed to battle at Theia Sky Ruins.

At Trainer level 6, the player gains access to the Pokémon Boost Emblems menu where they can equip Boost Emblems. Erbie got a little ahead of himself and started explaining Boost Emblems before the player even had any, so he also made sure to give the player a gift of five Boost Emblems before leaving.

In the Practice menu, Erbie explained that on top of being able to replay the first tutorial, there are more tutorial battles for the player to try out. Erbie helps out in explaining details during all of these extra tutorials. He also appears the first time the player enters the Held Items menu, explaining the benefits of held items.

Erbie also explains how the Draft Pick and Panic Parade features work. He can be called upon to repeat the Draft Pick information at any further point.

And through all of that, and at any further point, Erbie still works at the Unite Battle Committee's store. Whenever the player shows up, he gives them a welcoming smile along with his Elekid. This man is busy.

Pokémon UNITE Manga - Come On Over to Aeos Island!

Erbie appeared in the first chapter Aeos Energy alongside Professor Phorus as they introduced Unite Battles to a large audience as part of a Unite Battle Committee event. Elekid was present as well. Erbie specially mentioned developing the rules and the logistics they went through to create Unite Battles, then encouraged everyone to have fun. He served as the Chief of Operations for all tournaments and events, a role he sometimes laments due to all of the work involved.

In the second chapter Zirco's Holowear, Erbie was called over to Zirco Trading as Zirco explained what Holowear was. Erbie expressed great concern over the idea of allowing Pokémon to accessorize potentially impacting the pure competition of a Unite Battle. However, this trepidation gave way to curiosity when Zirco revealed Holowear is holographic and therefore would not influence the battles. Erbie was still unsure and wanted to defer to Phorus for a second opinion, but Zirco started selling preorders anyway. This left Erbie to shuffle out of the store, a bit embarrassed by the whole thing.

He made a brief appearance in the third chapter Welcome to the Stadium announcing in his position at the Unite Battle Committee that competitors were free to rest until the next battle was announced.

Erbie appeared again in the fourth chapter In Search of an Aeos Energy Spot with Professor Phorus, trekking into the mountains of Aeos Island... in search of an Aeos energy spot. Elekid was also brought along as a walking Pokémon. The hike was long enough that Erbie took some time to prepare hot drinks for himself and Phorus. The two eventually made their way to a foggy area at the top of the mountain, but Erbie sent out a Rufflet to clear the mist with a timely Defog. There, the two discovered ancient ruins teeming with wild Pokémon, which were on top of the Aeos energy spot. Phorus declared it to be the site of the Theia Sky Ruins stadium. Erbie was tasked with handling all of the logistics in preparing the new stadium.
