The Terror of... the First Date! (Japanese: キンチョ〜の初デート The Nervous First Date) is the 26th chapter of the Magical Pokémon Journey manga.
Plot
A nervous and lovestruck Arbok asks Wigglytuff to join him at the athletic field, prompting Hazel, Almond, and their Pokémon to come in order to support him. Wigglytuff soon arrives at the obstacle course to meet him, but is unsure if it is the right environment for her. Arbok does not know how to respond, leading Hazel and Almond to rush to his aid and encourage her to try the course. Wigglytuff decides she will participate, as she would like to see how the "common folk" entertain themselves.
Pikachu is the first to take on the obstacle course, and attempts to use a zipline over a net. Pikachu is able to make it across the net, but accidentally slams into the post supporting it. Confused, Wigglytuff asks Arbok if that is what is supposed to happen at obstacle courses. When Arbok explains this is not the case, he decides to take the opportunity to demonstrate for her so he can show off his "cool moves." He enters a netted tube obstacle and is able to successfully make it out. She then follows, but nearly crushes him on the dismount.
The next obstacle is the rockwall, which Arbok climbs with much effort. After putting on some gloves given to her by her maid, Wigglytuff begins to climb, with Pikachu and Clefairy following after her. When Wigglytuff makes it to the top, Arbok offers his tail for her to grab onto. When she does, he jolts in nervousness and she loses her grip, falling onto Pikachu and Clefairy. Arbok apologizes profusely, and both Hazel and Almond become anxious that the meeting will not end well.
They reach their last obstacle, which is a sequence of small wooden bridges across a pond. While Arbok is prepared, Wigglytuff becomes nervous about crossing, as she cannot swim. Arbok panics that his plans are ruined, prompting Almond and Squirtle to demonstrate how to make it to the other side of the pond. Hazel tries to offer some gentle encouragement to Wigglytuff, but Arbok intensely vows to protect her at all costs. He begins to walk her across the bridges, and catches her with his tail when she is about to fall. She then hugs him in fear, causing Arbok to blush immensely. He then confesses that he has a crush on her, but accidentally slips off the bridge, taking Wigglytuff with him.
Wigglytuff begins to cry, horrifying Arbok. Wanting to fix things between the two, Hazel jumps into the pond with her Pokémon, pretending to have slipped. Clefairy, however, begins to drown after falling face-down into the water.
After Clefairy is rescued and everyone makes it out of the pond, Arbok gives Jigglypuff a bouquet of flowers. She thanks Arbok for keeping her safe, causing him to swoon.
Major events
- Arbok and Wigglytuff go on their first date. After this chapter, they are not seen again until Pokémon Sports Meet!.
