The Partners V Starter Deck is an Asian-exclusive Pokémon Trading Card Game deck with random elements that was first released in Taiwan and Hong Kong on November 27, 2020.
Information
With Asian regions outside Japan and South Korea beginning to catch up with the release schedules of Japanese products, the Starter Decks that accompanied Sun & Moon and early Sword & Shield Era sets were repurposed into a more infrequent product line. The Chinese-language version of the deck was released alongside the Shiny Star V subset in Taiwan and Hong Kong on November 27, 2020; Thai and Indonesian versions were later respectively released on January 29 and March 21, 2021 alongside the Shiny VMAX Collection. The deck features cards sourced from these sets, in addition to some from the Amazing Volt Tackle expansion and some from items that were not released in these regions, such as the V Starter Decks. All cards have a product-specific collection number and set symbol; they also lack rarity symbols and Holofoil patterns.
The makeup of the deck bears resemblance to previous Starter Decks, consisting of three distinct groups. The first group contains 37 cards, which typically comprise Pokémon that focus on a single type, a number of Trainer cards and Energy cards that support that type, plus a number of other all-purpose Trainer cards. This group also contains a Pokémon V card. The second group contains a smaller selection of 16 Pokémon and Energy cards that primarily focus on one type. There are nine possible varieties of the first group and seven of the second—a deck can include any combination of the two, though the cards within each variety is always the same. The third group is comparitvely more structured than those of past Starter Decks, comprising five fixed cards and two slots that can contain another Pokémon V card or other Trainer cards. Each deck comes packaged with a rulesheet and a cardboard sheet containing damage counters and status markers.
