There has to be at least some data on the RS (FRLG?) beta and DP beta. TTEchidna 09:04, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Name

Can someone change it to "Prototype" in the template's header please? MK 03:44, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Beta refers to them in the stage of development that they're advertised in. When we got the Platinum reveal, all those screenshots were from the beta. The public never gets pre-beta stuff unless there are leaks OR someone STEALS it (cough Sonic 2). TTEchidna 07:45, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Alright, I've decided to move these because really it's the correct term, and who knows when a leak will occur or what development stages these are in. Please edit this template to acomodate that. MK 05:04, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
You wish.--FF(edits-talk) 05:07, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Please don't be hostile like that FF. MK 05:09, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
FF and TTE are right. Sorry to be mean, but "beta" is more right. --Clarky13 05:10, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
By the way, "prototype" refers to the original model, while "beta" refers to the preliminary testing stage. If they were prototypes, then the creators probably wouldn't have the unused data in there, since it's a model for the final product. Beta is the better choice. eA 05:14, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
But we're talking about more than 1 version, not a specific build of the game. In fact, the articles cover both unused information in the games, which can be from any version, as well as stuff from published media that were unused which could have been in an early alpha stage. MK 05:15, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Aha! Smell that? That's the smell of speculation. As prototype is a bit too precise and there's always the possibility of us being wrong, beta is the better word, being general and covering almost everything. eA 05:18, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Speculation? Where? We know that we don't know a lot about the internal development of the games. Prototype is extremely imprecise, referring to anything before final, that's why I wanted to use the term. Beta, to the contrary, is not a general term, and does not cover anything except the later preview bug-check releases. MK 05:19, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Ugh. Beta = testing stage. Prototype = An original type, form, or instance serving as a basis or standard for later stages. What dictionary do you use anyway? eA 05:24, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

As I stated, many many times now, that is precisely what we are talking about. What if a game is leaked and we get more information about it? What if there are new discoveries? What if a developer speaks out? These may have specific version information, or build dates, or other dated markers. These articles should be a generic hub for any prototype form of the games. All betas are prototypes, but not all prototypes are betas. MK 05:26, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
All betas are prototypes
THERE! That is exactly what I'm talking about. Beta can be used as the general term for anything shown before the actual release, including things from prototypes. As we're not completely sure if what we're looking at are actual prototypes or not, we use the more general term, beta, to cover everything from prototypes to other junk. eA 05:29, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Either it was in a prototype or a mock-up, if it's not in the final. Beta is not a generic term, I'm not sure why people treat it as such here. But anyways...I'll leave it alone now. All I wanted to do was use the correct noun, but people reverted it due to fear of TTE or something, then it was locked, due to misconception that I would revert. I forgot I had asked here and so a proper discussion was not held, even tho it may have ended up better. I'm not going to reiterate what I've said on like 5 pages now if the person reading it will not bother to listen. Since I generally have a better temper than other people, I'll leave before anyone gets angry at me and does things they'll later regret. MK 05:33, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Ugh. You seem to be acting as if you're better than everyone else. Or assuming things a lot. eA 05:50, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
How am I assuming I am better than anyone else? I'm just another dude on the internet. And I'd love to know what I'm assuming. MK 05:53, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Borders

Why the different colored border? Shouldn't it match, like, all the other templates in this style? — THE TROM — 07:43, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Update

Update the template please? The focus is really the beta, not the Generation, like it currently shows. tc²₆tc26 07:17, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

It's lengthy.....I'd like you to update it a bit more, this is more like rushed, this may be easy, work.--ForceFire 08:29, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I, uh, see no problems. Might wait a bit though in case you guys want to fight discuss this further. You both seem to be offline atm. — THE TROM — 09:21, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Still here. tc²₆tc26 09:28, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

How's this template?--ForceFire 10:42, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

I like the blue verion (the Kev brought up) best. It's much more to the point - simple, clean, and centers around the betas. --electAbuzzzz 11:03, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. The little blue one is essentially BulbaStandard. It's good to have a flow. — THE TROM — 11:04, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Shouldn't link to Platinum main page

Why does it? I mean, it should link to Pokémon_Platinum_beta instead of Pokémon_Platinum_Version. --Diego948 22:56, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Because the update I made was from an outdated version of the template. Sorry. —darklordtrom 23:04, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Nate! (HGSS was hidden, and a page is in the works, but it doesn't matter)--immewnitythemew 13:56, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Concept Art and prototype elements within promotional content

There are a few topics which we currently cover on articles such as Pokémon Red and Green and Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire beta which aren't necessarily 'beta' as such, 'beta' is not synomonous with unused. If something is beta it means means that sufficient attempts have been made at testing it, debugging any problems around it and consideration of implementing it into the final game (after testing to see if it is suitable, the possible technical limitations, etc.)

Additions such as the early concept art for Treecko, Latias/Blaziken and Torchic are more likely to class as early prototype or "pre-alpha" content; 'templates' of the Pokémon's initial designs, characteristics or features that the developers can review, work on and change later if they feel improvements can be made. The early English Pokémon names for Pokémon Red and Blue were primarily used for promotional content and did not imply that there was any consensus that they were 'going to be included in the final game' because there were no real proposals for final names at that time and the names were tentative and subject to change. Beta content on the other hand is usually an 'ideal for a release candidate' but generally only subject to change from external factors like overlooked technical limitations and the law/ethical concerns rather than internal factors like 'I don't like this design, can we choose another'. Thoughts? --Chickasaurus 10:22, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Gen VII beta

https://tcrf.net/Pok%C3%A9mon_Sun_and_Moon Sun and Moon have enough information to warrant a page currently. Will try getting to creating it when I am able to, going to go through other beta pages first and see if there is more info I can add currently. I will need to make an account over at tcrf soon so I can ask for permission to use their images here. Frozen Fennec 23:46, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

There's a page in the works already. It'd be great if you could add to that to keep all information in one place. --Carmen (Talk | contribs) 00:48, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Alright, will do. :D Currently working on Gen I beta stuff. Thanks for the link! Frozen Fennec 00:50, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
