The attack stage is lowered after the move's damage and healing calculations, so I've adjusted the wording of the second paragraph to be more accurate and less repetitive. |

Strength Sap (Japanese: ちからをすいとる Strength Sap) is a non-damaging Grass-type move introduced in Generation VII. Prior to Generation VIII, it was the signature move of Morelull and Shiinotic.
Effect
Strength Sap restores the user's HP by the target's current Attack stat while taking any stat stages into account. Afterwards, it will lower the target's Attack stat by one stage.
The target's Attack stat is lowered even if the user of Strength Sap has full HP. However, if the target already has -6 Attack stat stages, Strength Sap fails. Strength Sap will not fail if the target of Strength Sap has +6 Attack stat stages and Contrary, or is protected by Mist, or has an ability such as Hyper Cutter preventing its Attack from being lowered. Modifications to the Attack stat decrease caused by this move, such as if the target has the ability Simple, do not affect the healing because healing is calculated before any stat changes caused by this move.
If the user is holding a Big Root, it recovers 30% more HP. If the target has the Ability Liquid Ooze, the user will lose the amount of HP it would have gained instead. Abilities like Huge Power and items like Thick Club do not affect the HP restored, as the move only takes into account stat stages, not abilities or items.
If powered up by a Grassium Z into Z-Strength Sap, the user's Defense stat rises one stage.
