Torchic is Sapphire's first partner Pokémon and a rival of Red's Clefairy.

It first appeared in Strongest Rival Appears!?, where Professor Birch released the Hoenn first partner Pokémon for Red to see. This Torchic was a bit ditzy as it landed on Clefairy's head, but fun to be with. Due to the Torchic's personality, Red decided to choose it and it became a walking Pokémon similar to Clefairy, Pikachu and Tyrogue. However, when the group headed to Hoenn, Torchic was returned to Professor Birch.

Sometime before Let's Try To Be Idols!!, Sapphire received it from him when she was beginning her Pokémon journey. When the group head to a Contest to compete in, it was revealed to them when Sapphire chose Torchic as her Contest Pokémon. During the final round, Torchic was up against Clefairy.

None of Torchic's moves are known.
