Pokémon world locations

The Cipher Key Lair (Japanese: シャドーの秘密工場 Shadow Secret Factory) is a location in Pokémon XD.

The Cipher Key Lair is a factory used by Cipher to produce Shadow Pokémon. The machinery in the factory is able to continuously produce Shadow Pokémon at a faster rate than the old method used in Pokémon Colosseum. It is led by Cipher Admin Gorigan.

The Cipher Key Lair is a large pyramid-shaped building surrounded by a lake of purple-tinted water. A long concrete path with a large circular concrete platform connects from the entrance of the Lair to the mainland. Inside the Lair, some electronic doors will only open if a crate is moved onto a certain pressure plate. There are also some offices for scientific studies and office management. Gorigan's office is on the top floor.

Exterior

When the player first visits Cipher Key Lair, Zook is seen defeating Biden in a cutscene battle.

Due to the player's Snag Machine having been stolen at this point of the game, Zook's Zangoose cannot be snagged during the first battle against him. After the Snag Machine is recovered from Snagem Hideout, Zook is rematched with the same team as before.

Trivia

  • Aside from Zook's Zangoose, every Shadow Pokémon encountered at the Cipher Key Lair is a Generation I Pokémon.
  • The exterior and first floor of the Cipher Key Lair were used in the game's in-store demo version prior to release. This demo featured battles with Zook and several Cipher Peons using smaller teams with different Pokémon from the final game. Upon reaching the stairs to the second floor, Krane informed the player that the building was too dangerous to keep exploring at the time, ending the demo.
