Kecleon (Japanese: カクレオン Kakureon) is a Normal Pokémon introduced in Generation III.
footnotes=}}

Kecleon (Japanese: カクレオン Kakureon) is a Normal-type Pokémon.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Biology
Kecleon, along with Wailmer and Azurill, was one of the first Generation III Pokémon revealed, on March 7, 2001.
Physiology
Gender differences
Special abilities
Behavior
Biology
Kecleon often hide by changing its color to match its surroundings. It does this to avoid being found.
Kecleon is a bipedal, reptilian Pokémon that is usually green. On either side of its head are yellow frills, which are connected by lines to its yellow lips and rings around its eyes. There are small ridges on its shoulders and a red zigzag stripe around its midsection. The hands and feet have three short digits each, and it has yellow soles. It also has a long skinny tail that is usually curled tightly in a spiral.

Habitat
Kecleon is able to change the colors of its body at will and is known for frequently using this ability to camouflage itself. However, it is unable to change the color of its red stripe. Its color also changes based on its mood and health, darkening in color with better health. By using camouflage to appear almost invisible, it can sneak up on prey and ensnare it with its long pink tongue. If unnoticed for too long, though, it pouts and may never reveal itself. This Pokémon lives in List of Pokémon by habitat.
Kecleons live in forests.

Diet
Although Kecleon typically appears as green with yellow stripes, it is known to possess various non-Shiny color variations. A purplish variant of Kecleon has been seen in the anime, the TCG, and the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series; the purplish Kecleon in the latter also has light-green outlines rather than yellow. Blue, red, and brown variants of Kecleon have made a singular appearance in the TCG. Whether these variants are an example of it changing color or if they are different kinds of Kecleon is unclear.
Main article: Pokémon food

In the anime
Kecleon is the only known Pokémon that can have Color Change as an Ability. In Generation VIII, this was also true for Protean.
Kecleon first appeared in The Kecleon Caper.  A pair of them tried to foil Team Rocket's attempt to steal their owners' stuff.  This was the first episode in the anime to feature a Generation III Pokémon.

A Kecleon was one of the Pokémon that played Hide 'n' Seek with Pikachu and co. in Pikachu's PikaBoo.  However, said Kecleon missed out on the excitement when a lawn-mower was on the loose.

Harrison used a Kecleon against Ash's Pikachu in the Silver Conference in Playing with Fire and Johto Photo Finish.
Game data
NPC appearances
* Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire: Kecleon has the first Bonus Field on the Ruby Field. It will turn invisible, though a Devon Scope can be knocked out of the tree to make it visible for a short time. Kecleon must be knocked over and then hit with the ball ten times in two minutes to win the round.
* Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series: Two Kecleon; an older green Kecleon and a younger purple Kecleon, run Kecleon Shop, a shop in the game's town settlement. Kecleon may also run shops in dungeons. They are normally courteous, but shoplifting will result in multiple high-level wild Kecleon appearing to attack the player. From the WiiWare games and up to Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, only the green Kecleon is running the shop.

Trivia
* Kecleon is the first Pokémon in the anime to officially demonstrate Color Change.
* Kecleon is the hardest Pokémon to recruit in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, with a base recruit rate of -33.9%. It can only be recruited if the player is level 90 or higher, and if they are holding a Friend Bow. Even after all this, Kecleon's recruit rate is only 0.1%. Requirements changed in Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness, and Explorers of Sky; the player must instead be at level 99, while holding a Golden Mask with the "Fast Friend" IQ skill; these requirements come in conjunction with its base recruit rate decreasing to -49.5%.
* The internal files for Pokémon Colosseum lists Kecleon as being meant to be a Shadow Pokémon multiple times.
* Kecleon is the last Generation III Pokémon to debut in GO. It debuted on January 7, 2023, nearly four years after the last time a Generation III Pokémon debuted in GO (Speed Forme Deoxys, on June 28, 2019).
** Due to an oversight caused by replacing Kecleon data by Meltan around September 22, 2018, Kecleon became gender unknown<ref>Kecleon Known Issues. Kecleon is based on a chameleon.
Origin
Kecleon appears to be based on a chameleon; in particular, the veiled chameleon.

Name origin
Name origin
Kecleon's name, a corruption of its Japanese name, may be a combination of 隠れ kakure, hidden, and chameleon.
Kecleon and Kakureon may be a combination of 隠れる kakureru (to hide, to conceal oneself) and chameleon.

Kecleon (Japanese: カクレオン Kakureon) is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Kecleon, along with Wailmer and Azurill, was one of the first Generation III Pokémon revealed, on March 7, 2001.

Biology

Kecleon is a bipedal, reptilian Pokémon that is usually green. On either side of its head are yellow frills, which are connected by lines to its yellow lips and rings around its eyes. There are small ridges on its shoulders and a red zigzag stripe around its midsection. The hands and feet have three short digits each, and it has yellow soles. It also has a long skinny tail that is usually curled tightly in a spiral.

This Pokémon lives in tropical and temperate forests.

Kecleon is the only known Pokémon that can have Color Change as an Ability. In Generation VIII, this was also true for Protean.

Notes:

Due to its Abilities, this Pokémon will change its type throughout the battle, thus changing its weaknesses. For instance, if hit by (with Color Change), or after using (with Protean) a Fighting-type move, it will become more vulnerable to a Psychic-type attack and more resistant to a Dark-type attack if either is used next.
