Granbull (Japanese: グランブル Granbulu) is a Fairy Pokémon introduced in Generation II. Prior to Generation VI, it was a Normal Pokémon.

Biology
It evolves from Snubbull starting at level 23.
Physiology
Grannabul resembles a bipedal purple pit bull with a highly developed jaw.
Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
Biology
Grannbul has the stronges bite out of all pokemon.
Granbull is a purple, bipedal, bulldog-like Pokémon. It has a prominent lower jaw with two long, fang-like growths. Its upper jaw has two small fangs. The jaws are so heavy that the Pokémon has trouble keeping its head up. On the sides of its head are flat, curved ears, and its small nose is black. There is a black collar around its neck with two small white markings on it. Around its wrists are two black band markings, and it has a short tail.

Behavior
A Granbull's main weapons are its well-developed lower jaw and heavy fangs. The bite from its jaws is said to be very powerful. However, due to how heavy its jaws are, Granbull keeps its head tilted down constantly for balance. Despite its fierce appearance, it is actually very timid and sensitive, even more so than Snubbull. Granbull rarely bites as it prefers not to get involved in disputes. Unless Granbull is startled, it will not bite indiscriminately. If attacked, it will flail about to fend off its attacker. Granbull is popular with young people due to how it acts and looks. It is considered too incompetent to be a guard dog due to its nature. Granbull wanders around List of Pokémon by habitat.

Evolution
A Snubbull ran away from its home and followed Team Rocket (and by extension, Ash himself) around the Johto region for a short while. It eventually evolved into Granbull and returned to its owner.
Granbull evolves from Snubbull.

NPC appearances
* Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Granbull hangs around Pokémon Square, first seen as a Snubbull. After the game is completed, it goes into a newly discovered cave and evolves without realizing what was happening, though it enjoyed its new appearance after getting over the initial shock. This event alerted the rest of the characters that evolution was now possible.

Evolution
Origin
{| border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" style="margin: auto;"
Granbull may be based on the bulldog, a dog breed that can appear fierce but is actually gentle. Bulldogs are often depicted as being used as guard dogs, which may explain Granbull's thick collar and wristband/shackle-like markings. Due to its large size, it is possible that Granbull may be based on large bulldog breeds, like the Serrano Bulldog, Ca de Bou, and Alano Español.

Trivia
Its category, Egg Group, and Fairy may reference the Cù-sìth, a creature in Celtic mythology whose name means dog fairy. Alternatively, while its intimidating appearance could be reminiscent of various grotesque mythical creatures such as goblins and orcs, it might be inspired specifically by kobolds, sprites that are commonly represented as dog-like in Japanese media.
Origin
It is based on an adult bulldog.

Name origin
Name origin
Granbull's name may be a combination of grand and bull, as in bulldog.
Granbull and Granbulu may be a combination of grand, grumble, and bulldog or bully.

Granbull (Japanese: グランブル Granbulu) is a Fairy-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. Prior to Generation VI, it was a Normal-type Pokémon.

It evolves from Snubbull starting at level 23.

Biology

Granbull is a purple, bipedal, bulldog-like Pokémon. It has a prominent lower jaw with two long, fang-like growths. Its upper jaw has two small fangs. The jaws are so heavy that the Pokémon has trouble keeping its head up. On the sides of its head are flat, curved ears, and its small nose is black. There is a black collar around its neck with two small white markings on it. Around its wrists are two black band markings, and it has a short tail.

Granbull wanders around urban areas.

Evolution

Granbull evolves from Snubbull.

(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)

NPC appearances

  • Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Granbull hangs around Pokémon Square, first seen as a Snubbull. After the game is completed, it goes into a newly discovered cave and evolves without realizing what was happening, though it enjoyed its new appearance after getting over the initial shock. This event alerted the rest of the characters that evolution was now possible.

Major appearances

Madame Muchmoney's Granbull

Granbull made her main series debut in The Trouble with Snubbull, where she evolved from the Snubbull that ran away from her home and followed Team Rocket (and, by extension, Ash and his friends) around the Johto region for a short while. She was then returned to her owner, Madame Muchmoney.

Other

In Sleight of Sand!, Cassidy's Granbull battled Jessie's Seviper and was then defeated by Dawn's Piplup and a wild Hippopotas.

In Dressed for Jess Success!, Mario used a Granbull during the Lilypad Contest. It went up against Dawn and Mamoswine, and it was soon defeated.

In The Young Flame Strikes Back!, the Officer Jenny from Akala Island owns a Granbull. It prevented Viren and his henchmen from escaping after they arrived to arrest them for attempting to destroy the Paniola Ranch.

Minor appearances

Granbull debuted in Spell of the Unown: Entei, under the ownership of Lisa. She used it during her battle against Ash, only for it to be defeated by Totodile.

Two Trainers' Granbull appeared in The Power of Us.

In Showdown on Poni Island!, Lillie photographed a wild, sleeping Granbull during her time on Poni Island.

Trivia

  • Granbull and its pre-evolved form share their category with Clefairy and Clefable. They are all known as the Fairy Pokémon.
    • The "Fairy Pokémon" category predates the introduction of the Fairy-type in Generation VI. From this generation onwards, the type and category of these four Pokémon share the same English name. However, this is not true in Japanese, where the type is フェアリータイプ Fairy-type and the category is ようせいポケモン Yōsei Pokémon.
  • As the Ability Quick Feet did not exist until Generation IV, a Snubbull with either Intimidate or Run Away will always evolve into a Granbull with Intimidate in Generation III games. This means that in Generation III, Granbull is the only Pokémon with an Ability that evolves from a Pokémon with one of two possible Abilities that shares to Granbull's Ability.

Origin

Granbull may be based on the bulldog, a dog breed that can appear fierce but is actually gentle. Bulldogs are often depicted as being used as guard dogs, which may explain Granbull's thick collar and wristband/shackle-like markings. Due to its large size, it is possible that Granbull may be based on large bulldog breeds, like the Serrano Bulldog, Ca de Bou, and Alano Español.

Its category, Egg Group, and type may reference the Cù-sìth, a creature in Celtic mythology whose name means dog fairy. Alternatively, while its intimidating appearance could be reminiscent of various grotesque mythical creatures such as goblins and orcs, it might be inspired specifically by kobolds, sprites that are commonly represented as dog-like in Japanese media.

Name origin

Granbull and Granbulu may be a combination of grand, grumble, and bulldog or bully.
