The EX Series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game marks the beginning of a new generation, both in terms of the main series games with the introduction of Generation III, and with the rights to translate and distribute the TCG outside Japan transferring from Wizards of the Coast to Pokémon USA and Nintendo. During this Series, Pokémon USA would go on to fully establish the Pokémon Organized Play program and begin to make new promotional merchandise available, many of which have become staple methods of release alongside new expansions, or to promote specific Pokémon. Below is a chronological list of all the items released during the EX Series of the Trading Card Game.

EX Hidden Legends Theme Decks
EX Hidden Legends was supplemented with two Theme Decks: Forest Guardian and Wish Maker. Both Theme Decks appear to draw inspiration from Pokémon movies, with the inclusion of Dark Celebi in Forest Guardian alluding to the role of the Celebi in Celebi: Voice of the Forest, and Jirachi in Wish Maker referencing the title of the sixth Pokémon movie, Jirachi: Wish Maker. Both of these Pokémon are dual-typed, expanding on those introduced in the EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua expansion.

EX Trainer Kit
Conceived as a method of introducing players to the game and guiding them to an intermediate level, the EX Trainer Kit was released in June 2004. Unlike Theme Decks, the cards in the EX Trainer Kit are separated into Half Decks and have their own collection symbol and number, much like some products released in Japan, though all are reprints from EX Ruby & Sapphire, EX Sandstorm, and EX Dragon. The EX Trainer Kit features exclusive prints of Latias and Latios, and also comes packaged with two rule booklets, a coin, counters, and an EX Series booster pack.

EX FireRed & LeafGreen Theme Decks
Promoting the remakes of the Generation I titles, the EX FireRed & LeafGreen expansion also had two Theme Decks released alongside it. The decks focus on the evolutionary families of two Kanto starter Pokémon, with Charmeleon featured in the FireRed Theme Deck, and Ivysaur featured in the LeafGreen Theme Deck. Charizard and Venusaur appear as Pokémon-ex in the main expansion. Such rare cards are typically not included in Theme Decks, hence their exclusion from their individual evolution lines.

EX Unseen Forces Blisters
In November 2005 following the release of the EX Unseen Forces and EX Delta Species expansion were new Blister Packs, where the available items are presented in card backs sealed with vacuum molded plastic. While the packaging makes little resemblance to EX Unseen Forces, subsequent related Blister Packs would feature packaging that mirrored the design of the booster packs of the relevant expansion, and would go on to be released in tandem with them. Instead of Black Star Promotional cards, these packs made available exclusive Cosmos Holofoil variants of Sceptile and Swampert from POP Series 1. In addition to these were an assortment of three EX Series booster packs and one game coin, normally found in Theme Decks.

The EX Series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game marks the beginning of a new generation, both in terms of the core series games with the introduction of Generation III, and with the rights to translate and distribute the TCG outside Japan transferring from Wizards of the Coast to Pokémon USA and Nintendo.

EX Ruby & Sapphire Theme Decks

Continuing the tradition of releasing Theme Decks alongside main expansions, the first of those under Nintendo feature the fully evolved forms of two of the three Hoenn first partner Pokémon, Blaziken and Swampert, in the Ruby Theme Deck and Sapphire Theme Deck, respectively. Both Theme Decks feature a handful of new Generation III Pokémon and Trainer cards debuting in the EX Ruby & Sapphire expansion, and introduce players to the game mechanics brought into effect with the beginning of the EX Series.

EX Series Collector's Tin

The first collector's tin was released in November 2003 in what would prove to be the foundation for regular items in all future TCG Series merchandise, serving as an effective way of offering promotional cards and multiple booster packs, as well as providing adequate storage for cards. The EX Series Collector's Tin includes Pikachu and Meowth Black Star Promotional cards, five EX Series booster packs (3 from EX Ruby & Sapphire, 2 from EX Sandstorm), and a double-sided poster, featuring an EX Ruby & Sapphire and EX Sandstorm card checklist on one side and Ken Sugimori illustrations of Pokémon in Hoenn Pokédex order on the other.

EX Dragon Theme Decks

As two of several focal Pokémon in the EX Dragon expansion, Flygon and Salamence feature in the accompanying WindBlast and FireFang Theme Decks, respectively. The decks are based on the Flygon and Salamence constructed Half Decks released alongside the Japanese equivalent of EX Dragon, Rulers of the Heavens. The packaging style for these Theme Decks was also changed from a cuboid to trapezoidal prism, which has remained roughly the same for all Theme Deck packaging since.

EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua Theme Decks

With the release of EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua came two more Theme Decks, with each focusing on one of the rivalling villainous teams from Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald: Team Magma and Team Aqua. Both decks include an assortment of Pokémon that belong to their specific team, as well as supporting Trainer cards. The key Pokémon in each deck mirrors those that each team strives to awaken in the games, with Team Magma including Team Magma's Groudon, and Team Aqua including Team Aqua's Kyogre.

EX Hidden Legends Theme Decks

EX Hidden Legends was supplemented with two Theme Decks: Forest Guardian and Wish Maker. Both Theme Decks appear to draw inspiration from Pokémon movies, with the inclusion of Dark Celebi in Forest Guardian alluding to the role of the Celebi in Celebi: The Voice of the Forest, and Jirachi in Wish Maker referencing the title of the sixth Pokémon movie, Jirachi: Wish Maker.

The decks focus on the evolutionary lines of two Kanto first partner Pokémon, with Charmeleon featured in the FireRed Theme Deck, and Ivysaur featured in the LeafGreen Theme Deck. Charizard and Venusaur appear as Pokémon-ex in the main expansion. Such rare cards are typically not included in Theme Decks, hence their exclusion from their individual evolutionary lines.

EX Battle Stadium

Conceived as a platform for players wanting to improve their game, the EX Battle Stadium, released on October 18, 2004, features two 60-card decks centered around the Blaze Pokémon Blaziken and the Embrace Pokémon Gardevoir, plus four 10-card sideboard kits designed for players to adapt their decks depending on the style of battle. The cards contained in EX Battle Stadium are all sourced from the first six EX Series expansions. The prints that originate from EX Ruby & Sapphire, EX Sandstorm, and EX Dragon do not feature the e-Reader dot code strips or "e" logo on the bottom left the original prints had however, with the last e-Reader compatible cards appearing in EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua. Both the Blaziken and Gardevoir deck also contain Non Holofoil exclusive versions of their flagship Pokémon. In addition to the cards, EX Battle Stadium includes a two-player mat, a 16-page strategy guide, damage counters, status counters, and a Blissey coin.

EX Deck Tins

Released on October 25, 2004, the EX Deck Tins were the first collector tins to come in more than one variation, but are taller and thinner than the conventional tins that would follow. Each tin is designed to hold a 60-card deck in sleeves as well as other items, such as counters, markers, coins or dice. Each is packaged with one of four possible Cosmos Holofoil promotional cards, previously available as Non Holofoil cards via a Target promotion, two early EX Series booster packs, and a sticker sheet matching the design of the tin artwork. The artwork for each tin is taken from the Japanese booster pack artwork from four previously released expansions, which include Miracle of the Desert, Rulers of the Heavens, Magma VS Aqua: Two Ambitions and Flight of Legends.

EX Collector's Window Tins

First released in early November 2005, and as late as January 2006 in some countries, the EX Collector's Window Tins were the first tins released that resemble those available in future TCG Series. Each tin is octagonal in shape, and has a window opening to display one of the three obtainable Black Star Promotional cards: Moltres ex, Articuno ex, or Zapdos ex. The design that circles the side of the tin is taken from the montage present in the Japanese PokéPark Blue file, illustrated by Kouki Saitou. Each tin also includes an assortment of three EX Series booster packs, ranging from EX Team Rocket Returns to EX Legend Maker.

EX Crystal Guardians Theme Decks

For the first time in the TCG, an expansion was released with three affiliated Theme Decks. EX Crystal Guardians came with Green Cyclone, Storm Surge, and Earth Shower. The second wave of EX Collector's Tins was released on October 1, 2006, and came in three varieties. EX Dragon Frontiers Theme Decks

EX Dragon Frontiers serves as the penultimate expansion of the EX Series, as well as the last to feature δ Delta Species Pokémon. As with most expansions, EX Dragon Frontiers features two Theme Decks. Power Wave focuses on the Big Jaw Pokémon Feraligatr, while Shadow Blaze focuses on the Volcano Pokémon Typhlosion. EX Dragon Frontiers Blisters

In November 2006, shortly after the release of EX Dragon Frontiers, two new promotional cards were made available in Blister Packs promoting the expansion. The two cards were Plusle and Minun, both from POP Series 3 with the Cosmos Holofoil treatment. The packs included two EX Dragon Frontiers booster packs, one EX Deoxys or EX Legend Maker booster pack, and one coin featuring either Tyranitar or Gardevoir. Released later in April 2007 was smaller Blister Pack featuring the same design that included a Pikachu promotional card and only two booster packs–one from EX Dragon Frontiers and one from POP Series 2. These smaller Two Pack Blisters, often called Checklane Blisters, would later appear more frequently and more in time with other products promoting a particular expansion.

EX Power Keepers Theme Decks

The sixteenth and final EX Series expansion, EX Power Keepers, comes with two more Theme Decks. The expansion's loose affiliation with the Hoenn Elite Four is extended to the contents of the Theme Decks, with Dark Blast including Mightyena and Sidney’s Stadium, and Mind Game including Dusclops and Phoebe’s Stadium. Mightyena and Dusclops serve as the respective starting Pokémon in Sidney's and Phoebe's lineups in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.

EX Value Set

A large Blister Pack made available in March 2007 and sold in stores such as Wal-Mart. The pack contains two more Cosmos Holofoil reprints of cards originally released in the promotional Organized Play set POP Series 4: Combusken and Mudkip. Bucking the trend of prior Blister Packs, the two cards are of uncommon and common rarity as opposed to rare. Also included in the pack are four EX Series booster packs: one from EX Delta Species, one from EX Legend Maker, one from EX Holon Phantoms, and one from EX Crystal Guardians, plus a silver Energy coin.

Epic Collection Decks

Three pre-constructed 60-card decks released under the collective name of Epic Collection were made available on May 9, 2007. Each of the decks focus on the evolutionary lines of the Generation II and Hoenn first partner Pokémon, with the final stage Generation II first partner Pokémon featured as Pokémon-ex. The Meganium-ex deck includes Grass and Fighting Pokémon, the Typhlosion-ex deck has Fire and Lightning Pokémon, while the Feraligatr-ex deck has Water and Psychic Pokémon. The majority of cards are sourced from the EX Emerald and EX Unseen Forces expansions.

Epic Collection Value Boxes

While they do not have the Epic Collection branding, their analogous design and release date of May 9, 2007 caused many retailers to list these Value Boxes under the Epic Collection name. Similar in size to the Value Packs that saw limited release in 2006, the Value Boxes come in two varieties: one that includes a reprint Typhlosion Black Star Promotional card, and one that includes a Holofoil Flygon card originally from POP Series 4. Both include booster packs from EX Unseen Forces, EX Legend Maker, and EX Holon Phantoms, for a total of three.
