Levitate renders the Pokémon with this Ability immune to damaging {{type|Ground}} moves (except {{m|Thousand Arrows}}) and the damage from {{m|Sky Drop}}. It also is unaffected by the effects of {{a|Arena Trap}}, {{m|Spikes}}, {{m|Toxic Spikes}}, {{m|Sticky Web}}, {{m|Rototiller}}, and {{cat|Moves that change terrain|terrain}}. Additionally, a {{type|Poison}} Pokémon with Levitate cannot remove Toxic Spikes.

Additionally, {{type|Poison}} Pokémon with Levitate do not remove Toxic Spikes upon switching in.

These immunities are lost during {{m|Gravity}} or if the Pokémon with Levitate is holding an {{DL|In-battle effect item|Iron Ball}}, is under the effects of {{m|Ingrain}}, or has been hit by {{m|Smack Down}} or {{m|Thousand Arrows}}. This Ability can also be suppressed by {{m|Gastro Acid}} or ignored by {{a|Mold Breaker}}, {{a|Teravolt}}, or {{a|Turboblaze}}.

Many Pokémon with this Ability are eligible to enter [[Sky Battle]]s; however, some Pokémon with this Ability—such as {{p|Gengar}}—are ineligible, due to them landing on the ground when entering the battle.
Pokémon with this Ability are eligible to enter [[Sky Battle]]s, except {{p|Gengar}} because its model lands on the ground when entering the battle.

====Generation V====
If an opponent uses a Ground-type move that targets a Pokémon with Levitate, the message "'''It doesn't affect <Pokémon>...'''" will be displayed.

Levitate (Japanese: ふゆう Floating) is an Ability introduced in Generation III.

Effect

In battle

Levitate renders the Pokémon with this Ability immune to damaging Ground-type moves (except Thousand Arrows). It also is unaffected by the effects of Arena Trap, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Sticky Web, Rototiller, and terrain. Additionally, Poison-type Pokémon with Levitate do not remove Toxic Spikes upon switching in.

These immunities are lost during Gravity or if the Pokémon with Levitate is holding an Iron Ball, is under the effects of Ingrain, or has been hit by Smack Down or Thousand Arrows.

Pokémon with this Ability are eligible to enter Sky Battles, except Gengar because its model lands on the ground when entering the battle.

Generation V

If an opponent uses a Ground-type move that targets a Pokémon with Levitate, the message "It doesn't affect <Pokémon>..." will be displayed.

Outside of battle

Levitate has no effect outside of battle.

Levitate debuted as a Poké-BODY in the Pokémon Trading Card Game with Vibrava from the EX Dragon expansion. If a Pokémon with Levitate as a Poké-BODY or Ability has any Energy attached to it, it has no Retreat Cost. At its debut on EX Dragon Vibrava, the Poké-BODY only worked with Basic Energy cards instead of any Energy cards.
