Investigate the Foundation (Japanese: エーテル財団を調査せよ Investigate the Aether Foundation) was a villain event in Pokémon Masters EX. It tied into the first part of the Alola chapter of the Villain Arc, featuring battles against the Aether Foundation. It was one of the Alola villain events, the other being People Protecting Pokémon.
During this event, players could earn vouchers from battles against the Aether Foundation that could be redeemed in the shop for rewards, including Legendary Spirits that could be used to raise Scottie/Bettie & Solgaleo to 6★ EX. Obtaining 2,000 vouchers would reward players with a medal. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day.
This event featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas using various theme skills, earning medals and other rewards.
All sync pairs with the Alola theme skill received a bonus to their Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk and Sp. Def stats when used for this event, with the amount of the bonus varying between areas.
First run
The event first ran from April 28 to June 2, 2023. The "Sygna Suit Hau Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Sygna Suit Hau & Tapu Koko for the duration of the event, and the "Sygna Suit Mina Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Sygna Suit Mina & Tapu Fini starting on April 30, 2023 and lasting until the end of the event. In addition, Scottie and Bettie received their Fiery style in conjunction with this event.
In this run, players could earn Event Vouchers J from battles. Event missions rewarded players with Gems and Battle Points for completing any of these battles a certain number of times, and the Battle Challenge mission rewards included a Tech and a Support Move Candy Coin.
Additionally, the music and artwork on the title screen were different than usual. From April 28 to May 12, 2023, the title screen artwork depicted Sygna Suit Hau & Tapu Koko and Sygna Suit Mina & Tapu Fini, and the background music wasBattle! (Hau) (Pokémon Masters EX Version). In addition, a special voice-over line of Hau or Mina saying "Pokémon Masters EX" would play as soon as the game's logo appeared on the title screen, chosen at random each time the title screen was loaded. From May 12 to June 2, 2023, Sygna Suit Acerola & Tapu Bulu and Sygna Suit Lana & Tapu Lele were added to this title screen artwork, and the background music wasBattle! (New Wind on Alola) (Pokémon Masters EX Version). In addition, special voice-over lines of Acerola and Lana saying "Pokémon Masters EX" were added to the pool of lines randomly chosen each time the title screen was loaded.
Second run
The event reran from December 4 to 18, 2023. The "Triple Feature Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Sygna Suit Mina & Tapu Fini, Sygna Suit Acerola & Tapu Bulu, and Sygna Suit Lana & Tapu Lele for the duration of the event. The time trial event Top Speed also reran concurrently.
In this run, players could earn Event Vouchers Y from battles, and the amount of vouchers received as completion rewards was increased drastically. In addition, the mission rewards were changed to only award Gems and medals.
If the player had already raised Scottie/Bettie & Solgaleo to 6★ EX, they could not do anything with their custom Legendary Spirits; so, an exchange was included in the shop to revert the Legendary Spirits back into Event Vouchers Y. Performing this exchange counted as obtaining more Event Vouchers Y for the purposes of Mission 7.

Trivia
- While Aether Foundation Employees battled in this villain event use the same name as the Aether Foundation Employees battled in the corresponding chapter of the Villain Arc, they have slightly different models, animations, and voice lines. This is likely a reference to the distinction between the Aether Foundation and Aether Foundation Employee Trainer classes.
- The 4★ medal in this event is named after the Ruins of Conflict and Ruins of Hope, the ruins associated with Tapu Koko and Tapu Fini, respectively.
