Chikorita (Japanese: チコリータ Chicorita) is a Grass Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

Chikorita (Japanese: チコリータ Chicorita) is a Grass Pokémon.

It evolves into Bayleef starting at level 16, whom evolves into Meganium starting at level 32.
It evolves into Bayleef starting at level 16, which evolves into Meganium starting at level 32.

Along with Cyndaquil and Totodile, it is one of the three starter Pokémon available at the beginning of the Generation II games.
Along with Cyndaquil and Totodile, Chikorita is one of the three first partner Pokémon of Johto available at the beginning of . It is also the only first partner Pokémon from Generation II to be preserved from the Gold and Silver Spaceworld '97 demo, although its earlier name ハッパ Happa was nonetheless changed.

Biology
Biology
Physiology
Chikorita is a small, pale-green, quadrupedal Pokémon with dark-green buds around its neck. Its head is large in proportion to the rest of its body, and it has big red eyes. Chikorita has four short legs with a single nailed toe on each and a stubby tail. On top of its head is a large, green leaf that is usually longer than its body.
Chikorita is a small Pokémon which vaguely resembles a dinosaur. It is primarily a pale leaf green color with large red eyes. Its most distinguishing feature is the large leaf on the top of its head, which is usually longer than the rest of its body. It has a "necklace" of small green buds around its neck.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Chikorita can spawn vines from its neck and create leaves from the big leaf on its head. Like many Grass-type Pokémon, its foliage emits a Sweet Scent that has calming properties. This leaf also has the ability to check the temperature and humidity of the surrounding air.

Behavior
A soothing aroma wafts from the leaf, which can calm battling Pokémon. The leaf is also used to sense temperature and humidity. Chikorita actively seeks out and enjoys the sun's warmth. As mentioned in Sleep, Chikorita uses the leaf to search for the coziest place to sleep in. On occasion, Chikorita can be seen relaxing as it sleeps due to finding a great spot. Chikorita can be found in List of Pokémon by habitat. However, due to its status as a first partner Pokémon, a wild Chikorita is hard to come by and it is generally found under the ownership of Trainers. It has been recently seen living in the Terarium of Blueberry Academy. Chikorita has a docile nature.
Chikorita, like many grass Pokémon, are very docile. It prefers to avoid fights by using the aromatherapeutic properties of the large leaf on its head. It spends most of its time sunbathing, although it is unclear if this is because it needs to photosynthesize, or if it is because Chikorita is coldblooded and needs to warm itself up. It appears to be sensitive to changes in its environment, and  can use the leaf on its head to help purify the air around it.

Habitat
Evolution
Chikorita evolves into Bayleef, which evolves into Meganium.
Chikorita are rare Pokémon mostly found in large open plains or small forests with other Chikorita, Bayleef, and Meganium. They prefer warmer climates.

Diet
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data&rarr;Evolution data.)
Pokémon food
<div style="float:center; display:flex; flex-flow:row wrap;">
Chikorita spend a lot of time basking in the sun, so they may use photosynthesis to feed themselves.

NPC appearances
Chikorita was first seen in The Double Trouble Header. It was Casey's starter Pokémon. It evolved into a Bayleef in The Bug Stops Here.
* Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire: When the ball hits the button in front of Chikorita on the Ruby Field, it will unleash a Razor Leaf that causes the two Linoone to pop out.
* PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure: Chikorita is one of Pikachu's best friends. She is kidnapped by Treecko and Mankey and sent to Venusaur's lair, where she is later rescued. After Pikachu rescues her, she goes to the Meeting Place, where she builds the treehouse. She later accompanies Pikachu to the Sky Pavilion along with Piplup and Charmander, where she meets Mew.

Ash captured a Chikorita in The Chikorita Rescue. It had such high affections for Ash that sometimes came to a few faults, such as refusing to be switched out for Pikachu. Ash's Chikorita evolved in Current Events.

In Pokémon Special, Chikorita is the last of the three starter Pokémon to get a trainer. It escapes from Professor Elm and follows Crystal until she decides to accept it to her team, where it had to pass a test. Crystal's Chikorita wears a star pendant, formerly owned by Smoochum, who accepted Chikorita when its trainer did. It later evolves into a Bayleef to protect Crys from a Larvitar, then into Meganium during a fight with Lugia. Crys nicknamed it Megapon.

Chikorita was one of the first three Pokémon available in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal.  A Grass-type Pokémon, it emits a delightful fragrance from the leaves on its head and loves to spend its time leisurely sunbathing.  When called into battle, it uses its Razor Leaf move to strike at opponents' weak points.

Trivia
Trivia
* The Chikorita family is the only evolution family of a starter Pokémon to not have their names changed for the English release.

* In the anime, Chikorita has had the most trainers out of the Johto starters. It has been trained by Ash, Casey, Vincent, and Silver. However, Ash is the only one who didn't receive Chikorita as a starter. Currently it is unknown if Chikorita was Silver's starter Pokémon. Most guess not because of Silver's age.
* Early artwork and the in-game sprites of Gold and Silver depict Chikorita's body as yellow. This was changed to light green in later artwork and Crystal.
* Chikorita is the tallest out of the basic form starters at 2 feet 11 inches (0.9 meters)
* Due to a programming error, Chikorita is not required to receive the Diploma in Ruby and Sapphire.
* Even though it has a 87.5% chance of being male, most Chikorita in the anime are female, including the Chikorita from the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon special and Ash's Chikorita.
* Chikorita is the only first partner Pokémon that cannot be used in the Pokémon Jump minigame.
* Despite Vine Whip being an egg move for Chikorita, a move which the anime would consider "rare", it appears to be a common attack that all Chikorita can use in the anime.
* The Chikorita line is the only evolutionary line of a first partner Pokémon to keep their Japanese voices in the English dub of the animated series, due to having nearly identical names in English and Japanese.
* Chikorita's Gold and Silver sprites show it having a peach body; this was corrected in Crystal.
* In the animated series, Chikorita have had the most Trainers among the Johto first partner Pokémon. One Chikorita has been trained by each of Ash, Casey, Vincent, Silver, Lyra and Horace. However, Ash is the only one who is confirmed to not have received Chikorita as a first partner Pokémon.
* Chikorita might be based on a chia pet as the letters are in its name Chikorita.

Chikorita (Japanese: チコリータ Chicorita) is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

It evolves into Bayleef starting at level 16, which evolves into Meganium starting at level 32.

Along with Cyndaquil and Totodile, Chikorita is one of the three first partner Pokémon of Johto available at the beginning of Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver. It is also the only first partner Pokémon from Generation II to be preserved from the Pokémon Gold and Silver Spaceworld '97 demo, although its earlier name ハッパ Happa was nonetheless changed.

Biology

Chikorita is a small, pale-green, quadrupedal Pokémon with dark-green buds around its neck. Its head is large in proportion to the rest of its body, and it has big red eyes. Chikorita has four short legs with a single nailed toe on each and a stubby tail. On top of its head is a large, green leaf that is usually longer than its body.

A soothing aroma wafts from the leaf, which can calm battling Pokémon. The leaf is also used to sense temperature and humidity. Chikorita actively seeks out and enjoys the sun's warmth. As mentioned in Pokémon Sleep, Chikorita uses the leaf to search for the coziest place to sleep in.[1] On occasion, Chikorita can be seen relaxing as it sleeps due to finding a great spot. Chikorita can be found in grasslands. However, due to its status as a first partner Pokémon, a wild Chikorita is hard to come by and it is generally found under the ownership of Trainers. It has been recently seen living in the Terarium of Blueberry Academy. Chikorita has a docile nature.

Evolution

Chikorita evolves into Bayleef, which evolves into Meganium.

Trivia

Chikorita with its original yellow body

Origin

Chikorita appears to be based on sauropods. Its shape and appearance also alludes to that of a pear, or a Belgian endive, a type of chicory. Buds around Chikorita's neck look like a necklace adding feminine touch to the design.

Name origin

Chikorita and Chicorita may be a combination of chicory (a flowering plant) and -ita (the feminine form of the Spanish suffix for something small or young).

Happa is the Japanese word 葉っぱ happa, meaning "leaf".
