Plusle (Japanese: プラスル Prasle) is an Electric-type Pokémon.

While it is not known to evolve into or from any Pokémon, it does seem to be related to Minun.

Biology

Physiology

Plusle are mostly a shade of cream with red accentuations. The accentuations of red are apparent on its large ears, cheeks, forepaws, and tail-tip. Plusle have a creamed colored bobtail, tipped with a red plus sign. Plusle have a dot-like nose, and a cream colored plus sign voids in the middle of their circular red cheeks.

Special abilities

Plusle creates electrical pom-poms from its forepaws and sparks from its body to cheer on its partners.

Plusle's abilities in battle are basically the same as its cousin Pikachu except that Plusle has more Special Attack power than Pikachu (without a Light Ball) and is slightly faster. However, Plusle is unable to use Volt Tackle and Slam. On the other hand, Plusle learns more support moves than Pikachu, such as Baton Pass, Fake Tears, and Copycat.

Behavior

Plusle is a cheerful and supportive Pokémon, always encouraging comrades in battle by using the spark pouches in its cheeks. It is very compassionate towards its friends, and is known to cry upon witnessing a friend lose a battle. They are commonly referred to as cheerleaders for these actions. A Plusle may climb telephone poles to absorb electricity. It seems to enjoy battling with a Minun. Its cheeks will also spark if a friend is winning a battle.

Major appearances

Plusle first appeared alongside Minun in A Different Kind of Misty!. Both Pokémon were owned by Thatcher, who is responsible for protecting a lighthouse. The same Plusle and Minun appear again in Cheer Pressure, where Thatcher is training them to be cheerleaders.

Plusle and Minun also appear as supporting characters in the film Destiny Deoxys, serving as the story's comic relief. The pair helps Tory Lund to overcome his fear of Pokémon.

Solana's Plusle also appears with her each time she herself makes an appearance, except Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! Parts One and Two. It is the only one so far not to be seen with a Minun partner.

Another Plusle appeared in Yes in Dee Dee, It's Dawn! and Playing the Performance Encore! alongside its counterpart under the ownership of Ursula. Also, in the same episode one appeared along with a Minun in Dawn's flashback when she confessed that as a child, she had a fear of both of them.

Minor appearances

Elijah used Plusle and Minun as actors in Lights, Camerupt, Action!. The plot of the movie was that Pikachu, Plusle and Minun were setting out to rescue Princess Kirlia from an evil Exploud.

Plusle along with Minun had a cameo in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Team Go-Getters Out of the Gate! where they were rescued by Team A.C.T.

Ruby befriended a Plusle at the Abandoned Ship. It later appeared on Mirage Island, where together with Sapphire's Minun, helped the two rivals learn how to work as a Double Battle team.

In the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! manga

Plusle is the only known Pokémon of Hareta's father, Kaisei. It seems to be related to Hareta's Minun.

In the Pokémon Ranger - the Comic manga

Solana has a Plusle as her Partner Pokémon who is the counterpart to Lunick's Minun. She was used to battle Tiffany and broke her Super Styler and defeated her.

Excess data found on the game disc includes data for seven playable characters cut from the final roster, including Plusle and Minun as a tag team akin to the Ice Climbers. However, in the final version of the game, Plusle just appears as a random trophy alongside Minun.

• Pokémon Colosseum: A Plusle is Duking's favorite Pokémon. After Cipher kidnaps it, he is forced into inaction. Wes rescues the Pokémon and Plusle decides to join him as thanks.
• Pokémon Ranger: Plusle is the partner of Solana. After the end credits, it also feels a bond with Lunick.

Trivia

• Starting in Generation IV, Plusle can learn Fake Tears at both level 21 and 31 (21 and 35 in Generation V), but its partner Minun can only learn it once, at level 31 (35 in Generation V).
• Plusle shares the same species name with its partner Minun. They are both known as Cheering Pokémon.
• Plusle is considered by many fans to be a novelty Pokémon due to its general weakness unless paired in battle with Pokémon which has Minus. It appears mainly to showcase the Double Battle system introduced in its generation.
• Plusle and Minun have the same base stat total and the same base stats, although the stat distribution is different.

Origin

It seems to be based on a cheerleading mouse, chipmunk or rabbit. It could also be an incarnation of a positive electric charge.

Name origin

Plusle and Prasle are derived from プラス purasu, meaning plus, as in something with a positive electrical charge. A partial anagram of pulse may also be present in its name.
