(Japanese: ライバル決戦!サトシ対シンジ!! Rival Decisive Battle! Satoshi vs Shinji!!) is the 186th episode of the Diamond & Pearl series, and the 652nd episode of the Pokémon anime. It first aired in Japan on August 5, 2010.
Synopsis
Template:Incomplete synopsis Having both progressed through the initial rounds of the Suzuran Conference, it's finally time for Ash and Paul's long awaited league battle. After his previous defeat, Ash is determined to show Paul how much he's improved and settle the rivalry that began on Ash's very first day in Sinnoh...
The Episode begins with Ash and Paul heading right into the battle. Ash sends out Pikachu and Paul sends out Aggron.
After the opening sequence, it is the night before and Ash is practicing Gliscor's Giga Impact with Mamoswine with Barry watching from Ash's side. Ash then reflects on his past battle with Paul. The scene moves to Dawn prepping Piplup with a new cheering uniform. The scene then shifts to a deserted Pokémon center with Paul talking to Reggie about his upcoming battle with Ash. Paul discovers Dawn eavesdropping and they engage in a brief dialog. Everyone comes together outside, where dawn is breaking.
The scene returns to the present battle, with Aggron using Metal Claw and Pikachu countering with Iron Tail. Aggron then uses Metal Sound which affects both Pikachu and Meowth, who is selling merchandise in the stands with Jesse and James. Ash instructs Pikachu to use Thunderbolt to stop Aggron's attack, and then to use Volt Tackle against Aggron. Aggron counters with Flash Cannon, stopping Pikachu. Ash calls back Pikachu and sends out Infernape. Aggron uses Double-Edge while Infernape counters with Flare Blitz, burning Aggron. Ash then instructs Infernape to use Mach Punch, and Paul instructs Aggron to use Flash Cannon, but Infernape lands his attack before Aggron could counter the punch, thus causing Aggron to faint.
Paul then sends out Gastrodon and Ash calls back Infernape and Ash sends out Staraptor. Gastrodon begins with Muddy Water and Staraptor uses Aerial Ace and lands the attack; Gastrodon continues using Muddy Water, and clips Staraptor using an attack style that Ash has used countless times on Paul in the past. Ash instructs Staraptor to dive down and use Aerial Ace again, and Gastrodon counter-attacks with Body Slam, trapping Staraptor. Gastrodon then uses Water Pulse and shoots it to the sky then comes down with more power, and when all seems lost, Staraptor uses Close Combat on the ground, lifting him up and escaping the Water Pulse. Paul instructs Gastrodon to use Ice Beam, bringing the in-flight Staraptor to a screeching halt and a meeting with good ol' earth. Ash calls back Staraptor and sends out Buizel. Gastrodon uses Ice Beam again and Buizel uses Aqua Jet, and becomes frozen in the move, but uses the now Ice Aqua Jet to hit Gastrodon. Gastrodon then uses Body Slam, and Ash thinks quickly and instructs Buizel to use Ice Punch, causing Gastrodon to faint.
Paul sends out Drapion and attacks with Pin Missile, and Buizel counter-attacks with a Counter Shield, Buizel's defense with Water Gun while spinning. Drapion then uses Cross Poison, which Buizel dodges by sliding behind Drapion. Buizel then uses SonicBoom from behind Drapion, who blocks the attack. Drapion grabs Buizel with its tail, ending this segment of the battle.
