You know, a lot of Pokémon in these games, although from previous generations, is the first time they are catchable in the wild (without hacks, of course), like Metagross, Kingdra, Mamoswine, Crobat, etc. Is that worth noting? [[User:TFSpock|TFSpock]] 00:47, 4 December 2010 (UTC)TFSpock

Any References?

With the impending release of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver in America, can someone keep an eye out for any in-game references to Gen. V? Much appreciated. The Jigglypuff Ninja 01:04, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

I doubt there are any references to Gen V in HGSS. -Sketch 01:09, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
And I highly doubt that NoA would change the script to add such references in. 梅子 01:09, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Any references will probably be in the new Ranger game. Although the Lock Capsule is probably related to something in Generation V.--Purimpopoie 01:11, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
It's a Gen IV event item. Likely gonna be for a Gen IV event. Think: what hasn't been released yet? Could be Celebi... TTEchidna 03:04, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
At the risk of dragging this out too far (this is quickly becoming something that'd fit on the forums), hackers would have found a Celebi Event in the coding, but no one has. Add in that PokeBeach reports that it seems to have similar transfer data as the Manaphy Egg, and it seems like it's supposed to be transferred out of HGSS into a new game... but I digress. We have no proof either way.--Purimpopoie 05:03, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
The question is... how would it be obtained in the first place? TTEchidna 07:40, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Jumping the Gun a bit?

Are you guys sure we aren't looking into this a bit too far? All we have for clues are that they announced a new game and a new *something*. Not to mention it says it's gonna be new on the DS. What's to be sure of all of that? For all we know, the new game could be MindCrystal, the silhouette could be a new Forme like the last 5 that were announced. The new game could be a wii sequel to Pokemon XD:Gale of Darkness. If we can't even have Pokemon evolved editing pages when they're in the titles of episodes, why can we just up and announce a new generation? I mean, Pokebeach even said the silhouette isn't Z, what makes anyone certain it's Generation V?SLE_aman 11:53, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

What does Pokebeach have to do with anything? We know this is Gen V because Masuda SAID it is a new Pokémon. Nothing in this article says that this Pokémon is Z. Because we don't know that. All we know is that it is a new Pokémon. To think otherwise... well, you're in denial big time. -Sketch 12:14, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
The original announcement talked about the popularity of Diamond and Pearl before saying this game will be set in a new region with new Pokémon. What more evidence do you need? --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 12:36, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Well, technically, the RPG announcement never explicitly said it would be main series. Even though Generation V Pokémon were hinted, it was never explicitly said that it was the full-fledged generation. It also never explicitly said it would be a pair, either. There are RPGs other than the main series, and they could use a side-series RPG to give Generation V-based cameos to increase anticipation for the full-fledged generation to come at a later date (much like Mystery Dungeon 1 did). Recent announcements pretty much excludes the possibility of it being a Ranger 4, but it's still possible that it could be a Mystery Dungeon 5 or something completely different than anything we've seen before. My : Odds are the TBA 2010 thing is not for the full-fledged Generation V. Especially if the RPG announcement turns out to be for a single. They've faked us out before, and even if the silhouette does turn out legitimate, it's probably still too early to be thinking full-fledged Generation V. --Shiningpikablu252 18:19, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Actually, I've seen a subb'ed version. Masuda specifically said "We're working on a new generation of pokémon" --User:Camzoman
Yeah. And nowhere in that did it explicitly say that was the TBA 2010 project. They can be working on a new generation of Pokémon, yet still announce and release side games relating mainly to the previous generation. --Shiningpikablu252 19:34, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Camzoman, where exactly did you see this subbed version? I did not hear Masuda mention a "new generation" anywhere in the video - what he said was "we're developing a brand-new work for Pokemon." However, I don't think there's any denying at this point that it is indeed the new generation. The Corocoro site doesn't seem to be implying that this is a side game (not that Game Freak makes side games to begin with). It's a new version(s), with a new setting, new Pokemon, new features... sounds like a new generation to me. :/ 梅子 19:54, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Japanese doesn't have a plural so the "he only said one" argument doesn't hold. Just look at the information we have. It's obviously Generation V. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 12:12, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Would it not be better to make this page "semi-protected" so that only established users can edit? There are plenty of established users who are not administrators, whom I'm sure would want to contribute to such a monumental article. Kidburla 09:55, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Generation V Pokémon Infobox, anyone?

I know you'll probably all find this pointless, but I decided to throw together a temporary infobox to use for the Generation V Pokémon articles. It's basically a stripped-down version of the regular infobox that leaves out all the fields for any technical stuff (Egg groups, EXP yield, Gender ratios, etc.) that's unlikely to be revealed until Pokémon V comes out later this year. I also created a user-subpage for the silhouetted mystery Pokémon that uses a non-categorizing version of this template.

Thanks to PsychicRider for making me aware of the original non-categorizing Pokémon infobox. Quagbert 00:49, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

This just in!

Serebii.net just confirmed the first two Fifth Generation Pokémon! Go check it out! :) --Dialgafan1 14:21, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Serebii.net didn't. Leaked scans did. Also, the first one was already revealed. The second one was revealed to be before it in their evolutionary line. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 14:22, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
I think yu're probably going to need to find this information from another source. It seems like the users here have some sort of vendetta against Serebii.--Skaisdead 14:29, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
It is officially confirmed. It was from a different source. It was from scans. You can see bulbanews's draft. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 14:31, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
We don't have any vendetta against Serebii. He just isn't the source in this case - CoroCoro is. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 15:01, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

CoroCoro March 1.jpg

Here's the picture! --Dialgafan1 15:19, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Alright, these two Pokémon have been offically confirmed by the leaked CoroCoro scans, but apparently it's still considered too early to put up the Bulbapedia articles for them. Is there some additional form of conformation that we're waiting for?

Anyway, I already have Zorua and Zoroark in my userspace ready to be moved to the main space when we're finally allowed to do so. Quagbert 17:07, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

It's probably due to lack of information. I assume that when its ability/abilities and/or base stats are revealed it will be moved. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 17:16, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
IIRC, none of that sort of information (especially base stats) was revealed for the Generation IV Pokémon until the actual release of Diamond/Pearl, or shortly before, though we still had mainspace articles for them anyway. This means it'd be months before we move Zorua/Zoroark into the mainspace. Quagbert 17:31, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Actually, according to serebii, they're supposed to be revealed next month. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 18:45, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Related Pokémon

On the page, it says that it has noteable links with the Riolu and Poochyena families. If it's definitely pure dark type then just ignore this, but couldn't it be an alternative to the Vulpix family? --Herachu 22:07, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

New Pokémon template

Based partly on the {{DP episode}} template, I've decided to make a new Pokémon template to use the next time a new Pokémon is revealed. The code would go like this:

{{subst:NewPokémon|main|Jp. Katakana name|Romanized Jp. name|
typen= (number of types) |
type1= (first type) |
type2= (second type) |
pron= (name's pronunciation) |
jspecies= (species in Japanese) |
species= (species, aka "____ Pokémon")
image= (filename of image) |
caption= (caption for said image) |
height-m= (height in meters) |
weight-kg= (weight in kilograms) |
prev= (previous Pokémon's (i.e. pre-evolution) name, Arceus by default) |
prevnum= (previous Pokémon's National Dex #, 493 by default) |
next= (next Pokémon's (i.e. evolved form) name, Bulbasaur by default) |
nextnum= (next Pokémon's National Dex #, 001 by default) |
}}

Those who want to use this template for their own userspace should replace "main" in the top line with "user", so that those user sub-pages aren't categorized with the genuine Pokémon articles in the main space. Quagbert 01:04, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Take away part in introduction

It says that it is unknown whether the new games will be contemporaneous with any of the other games. I beg to differ. Pokemon Sunday officially stated that Zoroark lives in a "New Area". Or is it just saying that it is unknown whether it will be possible to travel to another region? Spenfen

Contemporaneous means at the same time. Like how RBY and RSE are at the same time, and so is GSC and DPPt. It has nothing to do with location.--Gou 18:08, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Two New Generation V Pokémon Scan !!!

Hey guys, I got this EPIC magazine scan featuring two new evolutions of Delibird and Farfetch'd from Generation V and it seems 100% real. - unsigned comment from Adyniz (talkcontribs)

It's not. Notice how I protected the hell out of those names before Zoroark and Zorua were revealed. TTEchidna 07:08, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Nintendo 3DS

It's very likely that these new games will be on the 3DS, so can someone remove the statement saying that the games will be released on the regular DS?--immewnitythemew 00:22, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Generation II ahoy. The press release said DS. Not 3DS. 3DS comes out NEXT YEAR. These come out THIS YEAR. Nintendo's not stupid. TTEchidna 00:54, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
It could be released before Christmas in Japan so there is the potential for the game to be on 3DS. But that's purely guesswork at the moment and it could still be a DS game even if the 3DS is implemented so we go with the only source on the matter - the original announcement which said it will be on the DS. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 11:27, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Or, as in Generation II, the games could be programmed with 3DS enhancements, yet still be playable on the DS. Nonetheless, until something official states that they will utilize the 3DS, any mention of it is speculation at best. --AndyPKMN 14:23, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Technically, TTEchidna, the page that announced the 3DS stated that it would be released sometime between now and next April, so that doesn't mean next year.

Uploaded player sprite

File:GenV.player.front.png File:GenV.player.side.png

I got the player sprite and uploaded it to the archives... I guess if someone can find a place for it on the article, well, there it is!

Actually, now that I see them side-by-side, it looks like the front-facing sprite on the left is the male character while the right-facing sprite on the right is the female character. Any ideas? - Nick15 02:01, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

1) This is the article for Gen V in general, not just Black and White.
2) Do we have the overworld sprites from the past games anywhere? The characters themselves will get articles eventually but we will hopefully have Sugimori artwork released around the time that happens. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 23:09, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
We do, but... mostly fronts. And those are animated. TTEchidna 06:02, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

But we all wish we did... Thermorules123 11:32, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
You mean you didn't get your game 0.840277777778 days ago? Never mind, I hacked the template to make it say better stuff. —darklordtrom 12:10, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
As long as you didn't break the template on the other four generations. TTEchidna 01:56, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm fairly certain I didn't. Fixed it through an optional extra parameter. Seeing as the parameter doesn't exist on the other four pages, nothing should have broken. —darklordtrom 05:19, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Gen 4 compatability

Shouldn't it be noted that this has been confirmed? (The upcoming Flare Blitz Entei and co can do something in gen 5) - unsigned comment from Deuxhero (talkcontribs)

makes sense, but since it's not officially confirmed, we can't include it. ShinyPikachu 12:44, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
What do you mean, it hasn't been officially confirmed? It's been confirmed that the shiny legendary gerbils unlock something in BW, meaning that they are transferable to aforementioned games. Serebii.net reported on this last month. Oh wait, let me guess- Serebii.net isn't what you consider a reliable source despite only being wrong about stuff they explicitly said they weren't sure about in the first place. We also didn't add all the english names for all the HGSS stuff until it came out and proved him right. When are you guys gonna swallow your pride and admit that Serebii.net is probably the most reliable source of Pokémon information in the internet? - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 14:01, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
The most reliable source of Pokémon information in the internet?, Hahahaha, I don't think so. Anyway, wait for an official announcement before doing/adding anything. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 14:16, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
If I recall though it was indeed confirmed by an official source that the legendary beasts could unlock something in BW... apparently someone got their hands on the pamphlet that you get for pre-ordering the ticket and it states that the beasts unlock stuff in BW. Not sure if there's a scan of it anywhere though, I would refrain from putting it on the page if it's just his personal speculation again. ▫▫ティナ 15:50, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
If it is added, be sure not to assume HOW the games are compatible; it's possible they could unlock something through a method other than trading or transferring. --AndyPKMN 14:22, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Just as a clarification, an official site has yet to specifically state "generation 4 can trade in some way with generation 5". The pamphlet in question can be seen in entirety here. On page 3 there is a small section that talks about Pokemon Black/White and the last sentence of that section mentions that the 3 have a secret. This was taken to mean that the 3 unlock something in B/W obviously because it is mentioned inside the B/W section and therefore probably are able to be traded to Gen 5 in some way. Anyways, that was the logic behind "Gen 4 and 5 compatibility confirmed." Whether that is a good enough reason to be added on here or not, I don't know :p (Yaminokame 16:39, 9 May 2010 (UTC))
There's also that little issue of them being ON THE DS. TTEchidna 23:54, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

I get the concept of compatability with Gen4 but whats going to happen to the Pokedex when you get aGen5 Pokemon on a Gen4 game?(User: Munchy Lax 20:33,3 June 2010 (EST)

Well you obviously won't be able to take anything that wasn't in Gen IV back to a gen IV game. If it's a direct trade then it'll be like the time capsule in generation II. Werdnae (talk) 00:44, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Starters

Here's the image from Pokémon Sunday: Dialgafan1 01:49, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

PokéSun May09 10.png

I can guess that the Grass Type is a Bird of Parodise Pokemon, as in the plant 'Bird of Parodise,' and also they had already done Bird based starters for Fire and Water, and not yet Grass. If this could be true when revealed, then it will certainly complete the Bird Starters just like the Lizard Starters of Grass,Fire and Water. The Fire Type could may as well be a piglet for it's curley tail, and the Water Type could be another Amphibian Pokemon like Mudkip. These are just guesses, but what do you think? User:Cynthia149 17:07, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

I think that you need to take your speculation to the forums. MaverickNate 16:35, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Just for the heck of it, I have a draft article for the Grass starter, which I created using the template I mentioned above. I also have startup code to create the Fire and Water starters' articles using this same template, if anyone's interested:

"Both are canine Pokémon,"

isnt lupine for wolves Iirc (Ataro 19:27, 12 May 2010 (UTC))

Dogs are in the same family as wolves. Canis Lupus, the dog is only further distinguished by Canis Lupis familiaris. But even still Canine could refer to Canidae which is what Foxes/Dogs/wolves are in. The only difference is Foxes are further classified as "Vulpine" and if we follow suit, dogs/wolves would be Lupine not Canine. And it did say some foxes (while not true foxes) could still be under the Canis Genus if that's where the Canine name comes from. But again while Canine might refer to dogs specifically, isn't that more of a general consensus, rather than a scientific consensus? I'm going scientific here, if people want to be so correct with the whole Vulpine/Canine argument. -Dman dustin 19:36, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

New Pokémon (CoroCoro scan)

Came here to upload the scan, but apparently someone else did but didn't do anything with it. Here it is:

This info should probably be put into the main article. Marluxia.Kyoshu 20:36, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

More info!

  • Zorua has the Illusion ability.
  • Mijumaru is 0.5m tall and weighs 5.9kg. It also has the Torrent ability.
  • Tsutaaja is 0.6m tall and weighs 8.1kg. It also has the Overgrow ability.
  • Pokabu is 0.6m tall and weighs 9.9kg. It also has the Blaze ability.

These should be added to the Pokémon articles--Pokélova! 10:05, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

On the use of unconfirmed information

We seem to have taken a whole bunch of unconfirmed information as fact here, and as it's generally not Bulbapedia policy to do so, it somewhat bothers me.

For the record, here is a list of information, much of which has been added to Bulbapedia, that I have not seen in the CoroCoro pages or any other official source (though if you have official sources with this that I have missed, please, by all means, link me):

  • The name "Tsutaaja," as well as all info on it beyond the fact that it is at least partly Grass-type
  • The name "Pokabu," as well as all info on it beyond the fact that it is at least partly Fire-type
  • The name "Mijumaru," as well as all info on it beyond the fact that it is at least partly Water-type
  • "Hiun City"
  • Zoroark's ability, "Illusion"
  • Those two new attacks whose names I can't be bothered to remember right now (Trickery and Claw Sharpen or something?)
  • The method by which to obtain Zoroark

I have seen none of this come from official sources, only from fansites, blogs, and forums. (Hell, I could have sworn that I saw some of this in a 2ch speculation thread back in March.) The justification to their validity seems to be that the random anonymous person who posted this information on 2ch was right about other information before it was leaked, so he must be right now - but that reasoning hasn't been enough in past cases, has it?

I really wish we had kept the above-mentioned facts off of Bulbapedia until they were confirmed, but here they are. I personally think they should be removed (and the starters' pages moved into TTE's userspace or something) until they are confirmed, but a reasonable compromise, I think, would be to tag all articles that mention this information with an "unconfirmed" tag of some sort (I seem to remember a template for one, though I can't find it now...).

Any thoughts? 梅子 18:23, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

They're all from CoroCoro. It's pretty undeniable. Reign 18:40, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Scratch that, I found the CoroCoro scans that apparently no one cared to share which confirmed all of this. 梅子 18:42, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

i would just like to say that, because of the set-up of the page, it looks like one or the regions in Gen. V is Starters. I would fix it myself, but I'm not an Admin. could an admin please change it show it looks like this

Legendary Pokémon

I may as well mention that Jello (talkcontribs) also has draft articles as well: Reshiram, Zekrom Quagbert 20:47, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Hi, I'm new here, but I just wanted to add a little bit of information about the names, if it hasn't been done already. In Reshiram's name, the shiramu (シラム) comes from shiramu (白む) which means "turning white" or "growing light". In Zekrom's name, the kuromu (クロム) comes from kuromu (黒む) which means "turning black" or "tinged with darkness". They're used especially with regards to the sky, for example, "the sky grows light at dawn" or "the sky is tinged with darkness at night". Hope that helps a little. AmaranthSparrow 01:31, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and just speculating, but the Re- and Ze- could come from rei (レイ) and zero (ゼロ), two pronunciations of rei (零), which obviously means "zero". AmaranthSparrow 01:43, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
How come nobody's yet made the articles for Reshiram and Zekrom yet? And yet people who DO create articles at strange names to get around it, they just get deleted. Why not just move them to the proper names? - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 01:50, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

It's likely because of your cache, maybe? The generation infobox reads new Pokemon as the amount of articles in Category:Generation V Pokémon, it doesn't need to be manually updated. We apologize for any inconvenience if we don't have new Pokemon articles up within the day they're revealed- we'd like to make sure that our articles aren't sloppily put together and include all the known info... which can be difficult at times and make us go "Hm, is one line of text and a mostly-unfilled infobox really worth an article?". Not the point, I know, but I'd just like to point that out. ▫▫ティナ 17:12, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

July 2010 New Pokémon

I just whipped a draft article for Chirāmī based on the scans that just leaked out. I only did Chirāmī since that's the only one we have a decent amount of clear info on. Hiragana vs. Kanji

"Kanji are now used in game menus and text, in addition to the hiragana and katakana used in the previous four generations." >> Not saying that this statement is false but could someone point me to a known instance of the games where kanji is used more prominently? I know that it has been used for some things already since Gen I, like the prices in the Japanese versions using the kanji for yen, but this seems to refer to a greater use of the kanji throughout the dialogues... ポケモンあいこうか 17:45, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

If I recall correctly, Colo/XD also uses kanji... I think PBR and Stadium miiight, but I'm not sure. There's also kanji in the TCG GB games. I might be missing a few...
However, this is the first time that a main series handheld game has used kanji in dialogue- the only screenshot I can recall seeing it though was the intro with Prof Araragi and Chirami. It's assumed to be a toggle of sorts seeing as there's other dialogue screenshots with just kana. ▫▫ティナ 17:55, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
I was referring specifically to BW, though, but thanks for the info you provided. xD Well, it does really seem to be an optional element, since I didn't notice kanji in any of the footage before, not even that one of Prof. Araragi and Chiramii... ポケモンあいこうか 18:26, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, according to the new Iwata Asks[2] there is going to be both a hiragana mode and a kanji mode. I suggest changing "Kanji are now used in game menus and text, in addition to the hiragana and katakana used in the previous four generations." to something like "Aside from the usual game menus and text in hiragana and katakana, there is now also the option of a kanji mode. While hiragana and katakana made the Pokémon series accessible to elementary school kids, the optional texts mixed with kanji now also make the games easier to pick up for older teens and adults." As opposed to the present version, this makes clear that there is the option of kanji, and explains the effects of the new kanji mode to those unknown to the Japanese writing system. --BlackySully 12:46, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Named after colors

Trivia mentions that black and white are colors, technically they're not colors. I think it should be reworded to say that the titles were the first since Generation I (or II, since gold and silver can be colors) to not be named after a gemstone or a mineral. Mudkipchan 18:41, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Technically, they are colors. Technically, they are not hues - they are shades. This terminology is used in most artistic endeavors, except lighting, where white and black are the presence or absence of light, but that's neither here nor there. These are colors. However, I agree that silver and gold are also colors, but I think it's pretty clear what was meant in the article. Jazzmoth 14:23, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Colours

Wow, this is totally random and pointless, but I wanted to point out that the thing about these being the first games named after colours since G1 is inaccurate. All the games have been based off of colours, however, those colours also tend to be other things (metals and gems, etc.). For example, silver is a colour, gold is a colour, ruby is bright red, as it's counterparts sapphire and emerald to blue and green respectively, and so forth. I just think that it's kinda pointless to put that information int he trivia when it's not exactly true. But feel free to debate with me, I'm open for people trying to change my mind. :D

Monochrome generation?

its not monochrome monochrome is 1 color black and white is already 2 it should be called the shade generation since they already said third would be grey - unsigned comment from Ares5566 (talkcontribs)

I'd like to inform you of a few things
1. Sign your comments. ALWAYS
2. "Pokémon Gre(a)y" was never confirmed
3. Monochrome doesn't mean 1 color. It means shades of 1 color. so Monochrome and Shade are the exact same thing. ShinyPikachu 02:49, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Just how Generation III was the Advanced Gen, why isnt this the Rebirth Gen? That is what is really is. They are having fresh new starts. Also, monochrome only applies to three games. Speculation shows that we have high chances of getting an Emerald remake (ranberth at youtbue has evidenece). In 2012, 10 anivesity; they like to remake at that time. Also, im reseaching that we might get more Gen I remakes due to 15th anivesrity. The biggest hint is that every region has included Kanto.Here is my guess...
  • 2011-Black and White
  • 2012-Grey
  • 2012-Emerald remake
  • 2013-Gen I remakes
(they will more spaced out)
So, with that said, i want to vote on a name! --Shaymin Master426 06:01, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
Monochrome is accurate for now. If there are Hoenn remakes, the name can be changed. It's called what fans have chosen, and for now it's monochrome. --SnorlaxMonster 06:17, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Needs Updated

This page is outdated. It needs to get updated with the latest info that has since been confirmed by last month's CoroCoro, and reconfirmed by both Pokemon Sunday & the official Site. Shinji-San 01:06, 24 August 2010 (UTC)Shinji-San

The fan name is wrong

The page says they call it the "monochrome generation".I am an Art Major at Lord Fairfax Community College,and that name makes no sense.Monochrome "only 1 color".There are 2 versions,and also black and white are not colors.They are refered to as neutrals in art(which is the only side that has an argument in color).Also,black is the abscense of color,and white is the combination of all percieved color.That name is completely inaccurate,and should be removed from the article because it does not really relate. - unsigned comment from Slyver333 (talkcontribs)

According to Wikipedia's article on Monochrome, "For an image, the term monochrome is usually taken to mean the same as black-and-white or, more likely, grayscale..." Therefore monochrome is not incorrect here. Also, if it's here, it probably means it was used on some Japanese fansite--just because it's not "right" in art, doesn't mean it can't be used as a fan term. --PhantomJunkie 02:24, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Plus, black and white ARE colors - they aren't hues, but they are colors. In art terms, they are technically called shades and tints, respectively. Black is a shade of any color, and white is a tint of any color. As long as you're not talking about light, that makes them both colors. (When discussing colors of light, it is acceptable to refer to white as a combination of all frequencies, and black as the absence of all frequencies, but we're not in optics.) I don't know what you're art teachers are telling you, Slyver, but I'd double check your facts before trying to correct people. Different schools of thought use different terminology, and although I've never heard of the terms you use, I know the ones I learned are widely accepted. Long story short, monochrome is an acceptable term for this generation. (Monochrome can also refer to any range of shades, tints, and tones that have a single hue as their base.) ʝɑzzmotɦ ❝❞ 21:38, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Number of new pokes.

One of the new commericals claimed over 100 new pokes (Pokebeach says so anyways) would be introduced. Should we change the "Pokémon" field in the template to reflect that? Also the info on communications with gen 4 is outdated. --Deuxhero 01:06, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Anthing for Trivia?

1.I think that with the information we have so far, we should be able to come up with some stuff for the section, at least for when it becomes editable to regular users. I noticed that this is the first Generation to not have a game where you (presumably) can't go to the Kanto region (as in Generation III, there are the Gen. I remakes, Generation IV has HeartGold and SoulSilver, where you can visit Kanto after beating the Elite Four).

2. I was wondering if anyone thinks they may make a Ruby/Sapphire remake, because Gen. III wasn't that much less advanced in terms of graphics and mechanics, so making a remake would be somewhat pointless, as you could just as easily buy the original, and considering they would have to put a lot of work into making a game that would be more or less the same in most ways(you can tell the added material in LG/FR and HG/SS is obviously needed or at least very different).

3. The new Japanese commercials for Black & White reveal another new team (as expected) and what looks like some sort of conversation thing where you get an up close look who you're talking to. Any comments?

Please respond if you would like. --BeeBwakka 23:43, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

  1. Trivia sections aren't things that need to be filled. No-one should ever be goining around looking at a page and trying to add trivia just because the trivia section is short.
  2. Talk pages aren't for general discussion. RS remake talk should be taken to this thread on the forums.
  3. Can you get pictures of the commercials? It would help for confirming details. Werdnae (talk) 00:16, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
It's far too early to say that anything won't happen in the next four years. Yes, the chances of revisiting Kanto are less likely this time around but anything could happen in the games after BW, especially with the 3DS (which any RS remakes would be on). --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 01:17, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Game Freak has already stated that the reason old Pokémon aren't included is to give all players a fresh, new experience when playing the games. Your suggestion is speculation, which is rarely allowed and certainly doesn't take precedence over word of god. --AndyPKMN 15:28, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
That brings up the question of "Why did they include old Pokemon at all". Surely a new game, set supposedly in a place half the globe away from previous games wouldn't have all these old Pokemon found in it.--Mackinz of SoulSilver 16:22, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

You know, a lot of Pokémon in these games, although from previous generations, is the first time they are catchable in the wild (without hacks, of course), like Metagross, Kingdra, Mamoswine, Crobat, etc. Is that worth noting? TFSpock 00:47, 4 December 2010 (UTC)TFSpock

Wrong Pokémon Count

I find this page is within the category page of Generation V Pokémon. I post here, though, since this affects the number of new Pokémon in the summary of Generation V (the one that has the screenshot, main games, region introduced, etc). http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/User:SLE_aman/fanhax - Chaotic iak 05:26, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

That page was using templates which categorise. I've replaced them with ones that don't categorise or replaced them with the relevant hardcode and removed the categories. Werdnae (talk) 05:49, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Live Caster

Can anyone explain what it is? It's not in the article. --Bee § Bwakka♂ (meh talk) 02:24, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Bulbapedia has a separate article for it. The basic information about it can be found there. --RiverAura 20:36, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Alterations from Generation IV

Shouldn't the removal of Curse be moved from the "Trivia" section to the "Alterations from Gen IV" section? U2kheim 20:12, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Wait a sec, what? Did you mean, the ???-type? Also, is it neccessary? --Turtwig Lover 13:33, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes because it is an official elemental type. --HoennMaster 17:11, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Thematic Motif?

When will the thematic motif for this generation be written? --Landfish7 22:18, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Because, I'm assuming they're added after the release of the next generation. --Landfish7 01:33, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
They were all added by one user quite recently. It's a new thing; no one's written the Gen V one yet. —darklordtrom 07:04, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Timescale between generations

i know there isn't an official timescale between BW and HGSS/DPPt (as HGSS/DPPt is 3 years ahead of FRLG and Ruby/Sapphire) but the page states that there must be a significant difference because the Rocket grunt who was seen in HGSS now has a son, however, Cynthia (DPPt) and Looker (Pt) are NPC's in Black and White too and don't appear to have aged much or at all (in comparison to Misty between FRLG and HGSS), so could it be possible that the grunt already had a son who grew up to be a Schoolboy trainer in a timespace of less than 3 years or slightly more? couldn't this mean that the time between HGSS and BW could be shorter than implied on the page? Azure42 15:32, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Cynthia and Looker are much older, so they age much less. The older Gym leaders from FRLG didn't change that much in HGSS. Misty was going through puberty, so her aging would be much clearer. Regardless, I believe that that Rocket Grunt said that he met his wife soon after returning home, meaning that his son was not born in HGSS. --SnorlaxMonster 01:39, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
It's highly likely to be 11 years - GSC was three years after RGB, RGB were released in 1996, with GS exactly three years later. BW were released 11 years after GS, and since RS happens at the same time as RGB and DP happens at the same time as GS, for the remakes' sake. TTEchidna 07:04, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes but Caitin is already young in Platinum-HGSS. Maybe she is in her 20s or her early 30s. Yet, in Black and White she still appears to be young (maybe in her late 30s). So an eleven year gap seems to be too big.
People can't have a very similar appearance for years. --HoennMaster 17:37, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
You'd be surprised how little some people change over the years. My brother, for instance, has hardly changed in appearance in nearly 15 years. And let's not forget our famous in-universe example.
In regards to Caitlin, she honestly looks a lot younger than 20 in PtHGSS. Her exact age, however, is debatable. --Darkeiya talk to me! 10:40, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Kanto

why's it say this is the only Generation not to include Kanto? wouldn't something like that be better saved for after this Generation is over?--Darknesslover5000 23:33, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Currently it is true. If this changes in the future, so will the trivia. --SnorlaxMonster 07:38, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
alright--Darknesslover5000 07:52, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Running Shoes (Changes from Generation IV)

is it worth putting that the running shoes have returned to just pressing B in contrast to in HGSS when it could be automatically be put on using the button on the touch screen? or is it just useless trivia? Azure42 17:27, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Debut

I noticed on the "Debut" part of the page it says "March 6 2011" - the U.S. release date. As it's under the "En" tag (obviously for "English") and the European release is 4th March 2011, should that be changed to reflect the EU release date? Although the majority of the fandom are American, it is the English premiere, or a third option be added? - unsigned comment from Ryu Shoji (talkcontribs)

It should really be first English, not first US. --SnorlaxMonster 15:08, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
We use US dates for everything else, I don't see why this should be any different even if it is two days before. --HoennMaster 16:17, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Maybe we should add *?----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 16:25, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
The thing says English, so we should use the first English date. The only reason US dates are used for everything else is because they are usually first (but not always). --SnorlaxMonster 01:23, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
The European date is when the English-speaking world begins Generation V. If the date has not been changed already, I will update it (this is the date we're counting down to on the Main Page/when all the info will be out, after all). —darklordtrom 03:14, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Catching Pokemon at a certain time of day

Can someone confirm if this has been removed? As it would certainly seem to be. XVuvuzela2010X 15:01, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes; time of day-based encounter rate differences don't appear in the game data.----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 15:07, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
