Milotic (Japanese: ミロカロス Milokaross) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Feebas by level-up when Feebas's Beauty condition is high or when traded holding a Prism Scale (as of Generation V).
Biology
Physiology
Milotic's appearance is similar to that of a sea serpent, and it is likely based on an Oarfish. Milotic’s sinuous body is mostly cream in coloration, with red eyes and three black dots down its neck. The top of its head is long, with a point at the end, and long, thin red ‘eyebrows’ extending from above its eyes and thicker, also red-colored hair-like fins draping from the sides of the head. Its lower tail is covered with blue and pink scales, with striations of black, and four large scales, blue with red spots in the middle, overlap at the tip of the tail to look like a fan. Milotic is described in the Pokédex as breathtakingly beautiful.
Gender differences
The female's eyebrow fins are longer than the male's. Also, in Pokémon Platinum the female's antennae are colored blue when it is Shiny. This is apparently a coloring error, as Milotic's female sprites from HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions onwards have the normal red like the male's.
Special abilities
Milotic have the ability to calm their enemies by removing their negative feelings, this suggests that they possess empathetic abilities similar to some species of Template:Type2 Pokémon.
Milotic can move by floating in the air as shown in the anime.
Behavior
Milotic is a peaceful Pokémon that typically tries to avoid battles. It appears to dislike conflict, and will even appear before arguing humans in an attempt to calm their minds. It is a historically significant Pokémon, and has been depicted in many works of art.
Habitat
Milotic are divinely rare. They live at the bottom of large lakes.

Major appearances
Milotic first appeared under the ownership of Robert in Win, Lose or Drew!. Robert used Milotic again for the Grand Festival.
Juan's Milotic was first seen in The Great Eight Fate!. Juan used it against Ash for the Gym Battle in the following episode, being his strongest and last Pokémon.
Battle Pike Queen Lucy used a Milotic to battle against Ash's Donphan and Pikachu in Queen of the Serpentine. Lucy's Milotic defeated the former of the two and lost to the latter.
A Milotic appeared in Our Cup Runneth Over! under Wallace's ownership as his main Contest Pokémon.
Minor appearances
In Malice in Wonderland!, a Feebas under the ownership of Johanna evolved into a Milotic, though it was only an illusion created by Mismagius.
A Milotic appeared in the boss fantasy of A Lean Mean Team Rocket Machine.
A Milotic also appeared in the opening of Arceus and the Jewel of Life, under the ownership of Tower Tycoon Palmer.
Another Milotic appeared in the beginning of Zoroark: Master of Illusions.

In the manga
In Pokémon Adventures, Ruby's Feebas evolved into Milotic after Ruby declared that it had inner beauty in the climax of the Ruby & Sapphire arc. This both shocked and touched the boy, as earlier, in Volume 16, Mr. Briney had shown him a picture of one, making Ruby want to find one for himself, which he searched for quite a while in Granite Cave. With its increased power, it was used in the counterattack against the evil leaders Maxie and Archie, and succeeded in driving them away for Ruby's Plusle and Sapphire's Minun to deliver the finishing blow.
Several months later, Ruby used it in a Battle Dome match against Emerald's Sceptile, but despite holding out for much time with its high defense elevated by its Marvel Scale ability, and succeeding in freezing the Grass-type Pokémon, it fell to a strong Leaf Blade in the end.

Trivia
- In the anime, all of the Milotic that appeared were under the ownership of a Pokémon Coordinator or a Frontier Brain.
- In the official Prima Strategy Guide for Ruby and Sapphire Versions, Milotic was erroneously stated to have the Torrent ability.
- In many ways, Milotic is the counterpart of Gyarados. Both are the serpentine evolved forms of weak fish Pokémon, and both appear in times of conflict, Milotic to becalm, Gyarados to destroy. Both have base stat totals of 540, the only difference being the distribution of their stats: Milotic is more defensively based while Gyarados is more offensively based.
- It is also possible it is meant to be a contest version of Gyarados - because Gyarados was introduced in the first generation, and Milotic was introduced in the third generation with Pokémon contests. This is fortified by Milotic's emphasis being on its beauty, while Gyarados' emphasis is on its power.
- Milotic has the greatest increase of its base stat total of any Pokémon compared to its prevolution, an increase of 340 points. It shares this distinction with Gyarados.
- Milotic is the only Pokémon so far to have a particular gender difference visible only in its Shiny form. In Platinum, female Shiny Milotic have blue eyebrows while males have red ones. This is apparently a coloring error, as all other sprites from the Generation IV and Generation V games have the normal red. Considering that the HeartGold and SoulSilver sprites of all other Generation III Pokémon remain unchanged from Platinum, this is highly likely to be the case.
- In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it is possible to evolve Feebas into Milotic without trading, even though no Poffin can be obtained and used in the game. This is done by visiting the Haircut brothers in Goldenrod or by talking to Daisy in order to groom Feebas, which not only helps to raise its happiness, but also raises its Beauty. This is subtly stated by the brothers and Daisy in the games, but cannot be checked unless the Feebas is traded to Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum.
- Milotic, along with Gyarados and Kingdra, has the highest base stat total of any non-legendary Template:Type2 Pokémon.
- Milotic, along with Espeon and Umbreon, is the only Pokémon which has multiple manners of being evolved from its pre-evolved form in the main series.
- Unlike the case with Eevee in Pokémon XD, which cannot evolve into Espeon or Umbreon its normal way due to a lack of in-game clock, a Feebas that has maximum Beauty (via transfer from Generation IV) can still be evolved by leveling it up in Generation V, as Beauty, while a hidden stat like the rest of the Contest conditions, still exists in the data structure of each Pokémon.
Origin
Milotic may be based loosely on sirens, mythical creatures who can hypnotize with their voice to make men attracted to them. An argument can also be made for the possibility it is loosely based on the Loch Ness Monster. Its similarity to Dragonair suggests as basis in sea serpents or sea dragons as well. It has anatomical similarities with the oarfish, with a pale, elongated body and extended, red dorsal fins.
Name origin
Milotic's name may be a combination of aquatic or melodic and Milo, as in the sculpture Venus de Milo, which is known for being an example of beauty, and like Milotic, possesses no arms. Milotic also has a wide range of healing and defensive moves, so its name may also be a variation on mitotic, descriptive of the healing process of a body part through mitosis. Also melodic is a type of minor scale in music theory.
Milokaross may be a combination of the aforementioned Milo and the Greek καλλονή kalloni, meaning beauty or Χάρις charis, beauty, elegance, charm, or grace. See also Charites.
