Vibrava (Japanese: ビブラーバ Vibrava) is a dual-type Ground/Dragon Pokémon.
It evolves from Trapinch starting at level 35 and evolves into Flygon starting at level 45.
Biology
Physiology
Vibrava is a Pokémon strongly resembling a dragonfly. In a stark contrast to its pre-evolution, its head is now much smaller with two yellow antennae adorning the front of it, and is now yellow with green bulging eyes with black pupils. It has a skinny yellow body, four skinny black legs with slender black feet and green rhombus-shaped wings, which appear to be layered. It also has two similar rhombus shapes at the end of its tail.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Vibrava is capable of emitting and manipulating sound waves from its wings. This ability has been tuned to the point where this Pokémon is able to induce headaches in humans. Being a Dragon-type Pokémon, Vibrava can learn Draco Meteor.
Behavior
Upon evolution, Vibrava gains the ability of limited flight. However, its wings are not fully mature, and are ineffective at flying any significant distance. Although they are not this Pokémon's primary method of locomotion, they are their primary method of prey capture. By vibrating its wings rapidly, it produces ultrasonic waves. These waves are quite powerful, and can cause their prey to faint. Fortunately, these waves usually do not do more damage than a headache in humans.
Habitat
Vibrava live in deserts, they enjoy rocks and nearby trees if they can find any in their sandy habitat.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
Vibrava hunts by vibrating its wings at high frequency. Once its prey has fainted, it injects the prey with potent venom.
In the anime
Major appearances
Vibrava's first anime appearance was in Beg, Burrow and Steal. Dozens of Trapinch were seen evolving into them at an underground lake. Team Rocket made a failed attempt to steal the Vibration Pokémon despite the fact the idea Meowth had of using their previous forms as nut-crackers was now foiled. The Vibrava helped Ash, May, Max, Brock, Hal and Elisa out of the underground labyrinth.
Minor appearances
Vibrava first appeared in Jirachi: Wish Maker, in the form of a swarm.
A Coordinator named Brianna used a Vibrava in the battle round of the Pokémon Contest on Chrysanthemum Island in Spontaneous Combusken. Vibrava were also used by random coordinators in Hi Ho Silver Wind and Harley Rides Again.
It also appeared in Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! Part One.

Ruby

To make prey faint, Vibrava generates ultrasonic waves by vigorously making its two wings vibrate. This Pokémon's ultrasonic waves are so powerful, they can bring on headaches in people.
|
Sapphire
|
Vibrava's wings have not yet completed the process of growing. Rather than flying long distances, they are more useful for generating ultrasonic waves by vibrating.
|
Emerald
|
It looses ultrasonic waves by rubbing its wings together. Since a Vibrava's wings are still in the process of growing, it can only fly short distances.
|
FireRed
|
It generates ultrasonic waves by violently flapping its wings. After making its prey faint, it melts the prey with acid.

Trivia
- Vibrava and its evolution, Flygon share several characteristics usually associated with types other than theirs:
- All of Vibrava's base stats go up by exactly 30 points when it evolves into Flygon.
- Vibrava shares the same species name with Palpitoad and Seismitoad. They are all known as Vibration Pokémon.
- Despite its FireRed and LeafGreen Pokédex entry, the only Poison-type move Vibrava learns is Toxic, through TM.
- This may be because Vibrava is usually not found in the wild, considering it would likely not prey if it isn't wild.
Origin
Bulbanews has an article related to this subject:
Vibrava is based on the adult stage of an antlion. Often the adult antlion and dragonfly are confused with one another, and Vibrava could draw inspiration from both. In fact, some species of dragonflies are commonly called "sand dragons", which could account for Vibrava and Flygon's typing.
Name origin
Vibrava may be a combination of vibrate (to shake rapidly) and larva. It may also derive from Vibra.
