Additional effects are the secondary effects of some, mainly damaging, moves that cause extra changes to the user or opponent.
Additional effects include recoil damage, lowering target stats, raising user stats, and inflicting status conditions. They do not include lowering user stats, HP-draining, and recoil. Some moves with additional effects also have effects that are not considered additional effects. For example, Flare Blitz has a chance to burn the target, but also causes recoil damage to the user.
Items and Abilities are not considered additional effects, but three Abilities affect them. Serene Grace doubles their chances of occurring when the user attacks (up to 100%), Sheer Force removes them when the user attacks for a damage bonus, and Shield Dust removes them when the user is attacked.
