Protect is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation II.
Effect
Protects the user from all effects of moves that target it during the turn it is used, including damage. This does not include damage afflicted by weather conditions it is susceptible to, or damage from status ailment that it obtained on a previous turn.
In Pokémon Diamond/Pearl, Protect cannot always prevent the effects of attacks if the user of the attack that is being used to attack the Pokémon using Protect has the No Guard ability and is using a STAB move, nor can it always protect against those using Thunder while it is raining or Blizzard while it is hailing. In the latter two cases, the moves have a 50% chance of hitting through Protect, whereas with No Guard, the moves have their normal accuracy as their chance to hit.
In the anime
Pokémon
Ludicolo: The two yellow discs are created in front of the palms of its hands when is moving.
- Used by Poncho's Ludicolo in Go Go Ludicolo to protect itself from BubbleBeam (debut).
Elekid/Electivire: A green sphere surrounds the Pokémon.
- Used by Gary's Electivire in Home is Where the Start Is and Paul's Elekid in When Pokémon Worlds Collide to deflect Pikachu's attack.
Burmy: A green sphere surrounds the Pokémon.
- Used by Cheryl's Burmy in DP030 to protect against Chansey's Doubleslap as a wild Pokémon and Wobbuffet's Counter in training.
