Prinplup (Japanese: ポッタイシ Pottaishi) is a Water-type Pokémon.
Prinplup comes with the ability Torrent, which increases the power of Water-type attacks by 50% once the Pokémon has less than one-third of its maximum HP.
Prinplup evolves from Piplup starting at Level 16 and into Empoleon starting at Level 36.

Trivia
- Oddly, Pirnplup can learn Metal Claw despite not having actual claws.
Origin
Prinplup is seemingly based on a macaroni penguin.
Name origin
Its Japanese name is a combination of the words ぽちゃぽちゃ pochapocha, meaning both to splash in water and to have a plump appearance, and 太子 prince - in reference to its evolution into an emperor penguin of sorts. Its English name uses the same pun, "prince" and "plup", the sound of hitting the water
