Severely Strained Relations (Japanese: シビアな親子に勝る特訓) was a solo event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Gordie & Coalossal, Melony & Lapras, and Victor & Rillaboom.

The "Gordie Spotlight Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Gordie & Coalossal for the duration of the event; the "Melony Spotlight Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Melony & Lapras starting on October 5, 2022 and lasting until the end of the event; the "Victor Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Victor & Rillaboom starting on October 7, 2022 and lasting until the end of the event.

During this event, players could earn Event Vouchers C, D, and E from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Training with Gordie!, Daily Training with Melony!, and Daily Training with Victor!, each of which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

The player could battle using Gordie & Coalossal, Melony & Lapras, or Victor & Rillaboom to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Gloria & Zacian, Raihan & Duraludon, or Nessa & Drednaw to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and any unlisted sync pairs with the Galar theme skill to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.

This event featured three Battle Challenges, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with teams using various theme skills to earn rewards.

The event areas were updated as the event continued. On October 5, 2022, Daily Training with Gordie! became unavailable, and Training with Melony: Part 1, Training with Melony: Part 2, Daily Training with Melony!, Raihan's Battle Challenge! Round 1, and Raihan's Battle Challenge! Round 2 were added. On October 7, 2022, Daily Training with Melony! became unavailable, and Training with Victor: Part 1, Training with Victor: Part 2, Daily Training with Victor!, Nessa's Battle Challenge! Round 1, and Nessa's Battle Challenge! Round 2 were added.

• On October 2, 2022, the official Pokémon Masters EX channel posted a YouTube trailer announcing that Victor, Melony, and Gordie would arrive in this event. This was the only time they made a full trailer for a solo event that does not award any medals.
• This was the only solo event to feature three Battle Challenges.
