Protect is a non-damaging Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation II.
Effect
Generation II
Protects the user from all effects of moves that target it during the turn it is used, including damage. This does not include damage afflicted by weather conditions it is susceptible to, or damage from status ailment that it obtained on a previous turn.
Generation IV
Protect cannot always prevent the effects of attacks if the user of the attack that is being used to attack the Pokémon using Protect has the No Guard ability, nor can it always protect against those using Thunder while it is raining or Blizzard while it is hailing. In the latter two cases, the moves have a 30% chance of hitting through Protect, whereas with No Guard, the moves have (100 - move accuracy) as their chance to hit. Furthermore, Protect will always be broken by the moves Feint and Shadow Force.
