Vibrava (Japanese: ビブラーバ Vibrava) is a dual-type Ground/Dragon Pokémon.

It evolves from Trapinch starting at level 35, and evolves into Flygon starting at level 45.

Biology

Physiology

Vibrava is a dragonfly-like Pokémon. It has a skinny, yellow body, and green, rhombus-shaped wings along with two similar-looking shapes at the end of its tail. Vibrava has green eyes and skinny black legs.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Vibrava is capable of emitting and manipulating sound waves from its wings. This ability has been tuned to the point where this Pokémon is able to induce headaches in humans. It also has the ability Levitate. This allows Vibrava to dodge Template:Type2 attacks such as Earthquake and Magnitude. Oddly enough, its physical-attacking power is actually weaker than Trapinch's.

Being a Template:Type2 Pokémon, Vibrava can learn Draco Meteor.

Behavior

Upon evolution, Vibrava gains the ability of limited flight. However, its wings are not fully mature, and are ineffective at flying any significant distance. Although they are not this Pokémon's primary method of locomotion, they are their primary method of prey capture. By vibrating its wings rapidly, it produces ultrasonic waves. These waves are quite powerful, and can cause their prey to faint. Fortunately, these waves usually do not do more damage than a headache in humans.

Habitat

Vibrava live in deserts.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Vibrava hunts by vibrating its wings at high frequency. Once its prey has fainted, it injects it with potent venom.

In the anime

Vibrava first appeared in Beg, Burrow and Steal. Dozens of Trapinch were seen evolving into them at an underground lake. Team Rocket made a failed attempt to steal the Antlion Pokémon despite the fact the idea Meowth had of using their previous forms as nut-crackers was now foiled. The Vibrava helped Ash, May, Max, Brock, Hal and Elisa out of the underground labyrinth.

A coordinator named Brianna used a Vibrava in the battle round of the Pokémon Contest in Spontaneous Combusken. Vibrava were also used by random coordinators in Hi Ho Silver Wind and Harley Rides Again.

It also appeared in Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! Part One.

Ruby To make prey faint, Vibrava generates ultrasonic waves by vigorously making its two wings vibrate. This Pokémon's Template:M2 are so powerful, they can bring on headaches in people.
Sapphire Vibrava's wings have not yet completed the process of growing. Rather than flying long distances, they are more useful for generating ultrasonic waves by vibrating.
Emerald It looses ultrasonic waves by rubbing its wings together. Since a Vibrava's wings are still in the process of growing, it can only fly short distances.
FireRed It generates ultrasonic waves by violently flapping its wings. After making its prey faint, it melts the prey with acid.
LeafGreen It generates ultrasonic waves by violently flapping its wings. After making its prey faint, it melts the prey with acid.

Trivia

  • Vibrava is the only non-cocoon based Pokémon whose attack stat is weaker than the Pokémon it evolves from.
  • Vibrava and its evolution Flygon are the only non-legendary Pokémon that are not Template:Type2 and can learn Fly, with the exception of Smeargle.
  • Vibrava has lower base attack stat than its pre-evolution, Trapinch

Name origin

Vibrava's name is probably based on the word vibrate, to shake, and larva.
