Deoxys (Japanese: デオキシス Deoxys) is a Psychic-type Pokémon.

Deoxys evolves neither to anything, nor from anything, and is the last Pokémon in the Hoenn Dex and National Dex within Generation III.

Biology

The shape of Deoxys is based on a strand of DNA.

Physiology

Deoxys has four forms, each with different appearance, the main things that are constant for all four forms is that Deoxys's dominant color is orange with a bluish-green face that has a purple stripe where a nose would be and white circular eyes and the crystalline organ in its chest:

The "Normal" form has skinny legs that come to a point. The upper-legs have a single blue stripe that goes down to the knees. Deoxys can sometimes have bluish-green arms with five-fingered hands and a red "Y" shape that runs down the arms' entire length. It has an orange skin that covers it except for its abdomen. It also been seen with two cord-like tentacle (one red and one blue) in place of the arms. Deoxys also has two trapezoid-shaped "ears".

The "Attack" form has basically the same leg-shape as the Normal Form, but the stripes run down for mostly all of the legs' length and Deoxys has a spike on each of its knees. Deoxys has a pair of tentacles that come to a point were its arms would be and cannot be twisted. Deoxys has triangle-shaped "ears" and a single spike on top of its head. Most of the orange "skin" has disappeared.

The "Defense" form has wide legs that are somewhat flat at the end and have a bluish-green spot on each of the knees. Deoxys has flat, broad tentacles that also can't be twisted and Deoxys's head has been fused with its body. Its "skin" has thickened and covered all of its body parts for greater defense.

The "Speed" form has gray, skinny legs and a gray body. Deoxys only has one tentacle on each side of its body. The back of Deoxys's head is elongated and comes to a point. It has also lost most of its orange "skin" for faster movement.

Gender differences

Deoxys is a genderless species.

Special abilities

Deoxys mostly has the same abilities as Mewtwo and the aforementioned ability to change its appearance to suit whatever situation it may be in during battle.

Deoxys's signature attack is Psycho Boost.

Behavior

Habitat

Deoxys crashed to earth on a stray meteor which was its home.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

In the anime

Deoxys first appeared in Destiny Deoxys. One with a green crystalline organ fell to earth in a meteorite. A second Deoxys (with a purple crystalline organ) came to La Rousse City to search for it but ended up in an epic battle with Rayquaza. As Pokémon Emerald had not been released when the movie was produced, only its Defense, Normal and Attack forms appeared.

In the anime, Deoxys's cry was a loud but short foghorn like blast.

Deoxys also appeared in the special episode Pokémon Ranger - Deoxys Crisis!. This is where Deoxys's Speed form debuted.

In the manga

In the TCG

Deoxys first appears in EX Deoxys.

Other appearances

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

When unleashed from a Poké Ball, an Attack Form Deoxys will sometimes appear. It floats gently towards the top of the screen. It will spin gracefully & begin to glow. When fully facing the front it will cast a powerful Hyper Beam sending anyone in its path flying.

Trivia

  • The attack form of Deoxys has the highest attack of any Pokémon.
  • The speed form of Deoxys has the highest speed of any Pokémon.
  • Deoxys first three forms, Defense, Normal, and Attack have the initals D.N.A., the initals of deoxyribonucleic acid, which Deoxys is named and based after.
  • All of Deoxys's forms are available in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl; however, unlike Generation III, they can freely be changed in-game by inspecting the meteorites in Veilstone City.
  • In Pokémon Ranger, Deoxys's form changes every time its Browser entry is accessed. It cycles in order from Normal Form to Attack Form to Defense Form to Speed Form and finally back to Normal Form.

Origin

Deoxys appears to draw inspiration from certain representations of aliens. Considering its viral nature and its ability to mutate, not to mention its location on a southern island, it may have been loosely based on the Missingno. glitch. However, the fact that in its neutral form, its arms spiral in a way that resembles DNA, from which its name is already derived, this suggests that there is a connection there too.

Name origin

Deoxys's name is an abbreviation of deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, the medium of genetic code in many cellular organisms.
