Diet
Main article: Pokémon food
Marill's diet mainly includes plants that grow near or in rivers, including river weeds.
In the anime
Marill first appeared in Pikachu's Vacation. It was causing trouble for Pikachu and co. along with a Raichu, a Snubbull and a Cubone.
Another Marill was used by Tracey Sketchit.
There was a different Marill in For Crying Out Loud. This one was a bit of a crybaby and it got lost in a forest with Misty.
Vivi Winstrate also owns a Marill. When Vivi battled against Max in Candid Camerupt, Max wanted to go easy on Vivi's Marill, but Ash's Corphish refused to abide with Max and defeated Marill anyway.

Other appearances
When released from a Poké Ball, Marill will immediately start running in the direction the ball was thrown. Any opponents in the way will be juggled with its DoubleSlap. It can be knocked off the screen with a smash attack.
Trophy information
This Aqua Mouse Pokémon evolves into Azumarill. The round ball on the end of its tail acts like a flotation device, so it can float safely on the roughest of water conditions. It resides on Mt. Mortar in seclusion; few of the creatures are ever seen. Marill's cuteness has earned it a large and loyal fan base.

Trivia
- For months prior to to the release of Pokémon Gold and Silver, Marill was often incorrectly referred to as "Pikablu", likely because of a slight resemblance to Pikachu.
- In its original design, Marill was pink.
- Marill was the third Generation II Pokémon to appear before the Johto series (after Ho-Oh and Togepi, and not counting Pikachu's Vacation).
Origin
It is based upon a combination of a Siberian Husky and a campfire.
Name origin
Husinder's name is a combination of Husky, a type of dog, and Cinder, a fragment of cooled pyroclastic material. Hinuto, however, is based on 水 hito, "fire," and ムツゴロウ inu, "dog."
