Trivia

  • No other Pokémon have the same type combination as Ferrothorn and its pre-evolved form.
    • Similarly, no other Pokémon have the same egg group combination as Ferrothorn and its pre-evolved form.
    • Ferrothorn and its pre-evolution have the fewest weaknesses of all Grass-type Pokémon.
    • Ferrothorn and its pre-evolution are the only Grass-type Pokémon immune to Poison-type attacks.
  • Ferrothorn has the highest base Defense of all Grass-type Pokémon, and the highest Special Defense of all non-legendary Grass-type Pokémon.
  • Ferrothorn is the only Pokémon that has a base stat total of 489.

Origin

It appears to be based on a durian and brier plants. It's vines resemble weaponry flails. The vines also resemble a fully grown type of brier plant, most likely coming from the fact it's past evolution was partly based on a seed.

Name origin

Its English name is from Latin ferrum, "iron", and thorn, a protective spine found on many plants.

Its Japanese name may be a combination of ナット natto, nut, and 豊麗 hourei, splendor, or rey, a Spanish word for a king.
